Carrie on Tutu-ing

Over the coming weeks I will be looking at celebrities who love their tutus as much as I do and where better to start that with possibly THE most famous tutu of all – Carrie’s tutu from the title sequence of Sex and The City.

The show launched in 1998 and the outrageous whimsical fashions that Carrie wore began a craze for pairing vintage clothing with designer fashion which continued throughout the Noughties – and the Carrie tutu was the the first example of this. The tutu belonged to Sarah Jessica Parker and cost only $5 from a vintage store. And this outfit very nearly didn’t make it onto the TV show at all, as an alternative version of the credits was filmed with SJP wearing a blue dress! After being seen at the start of 94 episodes and in the feature film, the tutu is certainly an iconic image of the show and I absolutely love it!
