Mother’s Day treats & ideas

With only one week until Mother’s Day it’s time to get organising some treats for mum. I’ve been thinking about what to do for mum for about a month now and I can’t wait to take her out for the day (but it would be spoiling the surprise if I told you where we are going!). If you’re visiting your mother next Sunday it would be lovely to turn up with an armful of flowers, gifts and chocolates but even if you live far away from your mum, you can still show her you love her and here’s how:mothers day cards etsyAbsolutely essential is a card to wish her your mum a happy mother’s day. Whether you’re posting a card from miles away or handing it to her over the breakfast table, its the only thing that mums truly hope for on the day.

I’ve found a series of pun-tastic cards on Etsy made by Kacey from London-based MudSplash Studios (below) and original hand-painted illustrations by Hutch and Willow above have been turned into lovely cards for mother’s day. mothers day card etsy

Another great idea is to give your mother a once-in-a-lifetime experience by sending her an experience day voucher. Even if you can’t be together on the day, she’ll know that you’ve planned something special for her, and maybe it could even be an experience that they two of you can enjoy together, such as a spa day or cookery class. Research has shown that experience gifts are growing in popularity over traditional tangible gifts as they are often a more cost-effective method of gifting. In fact, experience vouchers can often be a money-saving way to enjoy an otherwise costly experience – dining packages at the most sought-after restaurants in the country can be bought for as little as £30 from Into The Blue!

Printable gift vouchers mean that you don’t need to worry about delivery times if you’re looking for a last-minute treat for Mother’s Day and many experiences, such as London tours from £6.50, are very good value for money. Industry research published in February has shown that people prefer experiences to traditional gifts – I know I love getting the ‘promise’ of a fun day out! Vouchers also allow your mum to choose when she wants to book her experience and can give you both a date to look forward to. It’ll be fun to make memories together and to share all those photos on Instagram when you get back from your beauty day or flying lesson!

If you want to send flowers but don’t want it to cost a fortune, have a look online. I honestly had no idea that it was possible to buy fresh flowers on Etsy but a while I was searching for cards I also came across beautiful bunches of seasonal flowers, hand-tied into bouquets that can be delivered in time for Mother’s Day. If you can’t be with your mum next Sunday, order a bunch now!mothers day flowers etsy

If you’re looking for a personalised gift for mum, why not consider getting a piece of jewellery custom-made for her by one of the fabulous independent designers here in the UK? You could even have her gift engraved to make her special day even more memorable – I previously had a locket necklace engraved for mum and put photos of her all children inside, which she absolutely loved, so I’m sure your mum would enjoy this kind of personalised gift too. Almost gift from jewellery and watches to frames and photo albums can be engraved so have a look online to find the best engraved gifts.

I’ve also just heard about a competition to win a 3 or 4 night stay at a Parkdean holiday park, just by telling them why your mum is one in a million. I’m definitely going to be entering and it’ll be easy for me to come up with just one of the many reasons why my mum is special! Check out the competition here and enter before Mothers’s Day on the 15th March and you too could be in with a chance of winning a breaking for you and your mother.recipe for lemon and blueberry muffin cakes for afternoon tea on Valentines Day Mother's Day or birthday-10Finally, how about taking your mum out for a treat? You can take advantage of the offers that restaurants and cafes are promoting for Mother’s Day and treat her to a delicious lunch. Or take her out for the day and make a trip to her favourite town for shopping and an evening meal. You could even plan a bit of pampering at home by preparing a movie-night in or a DIY afternoon tea with homemade scones.

Let me know if you get up to anything fun for Mother’s Day and I’d love to hear your ideas on how to spoil your mum next sunday, so please leave me a comment below.
