I’ve been reading about gardening this month, and it’s all down to the newly released book The Thoughtful Gardener. If you too have an empty garden (or an overgrown one, for that matter) this book is the perfect starting point to get you into the garden this spring. It’s packed full of inspirational ideas and plenty of photos of gardens in bloom that’ll get you wanting to plant up your patch. Read on to find out more about the book and author, and to enter my giveaway to WIN a copy of this beautiful new release, worth £35!Award-winning designer, and gardening columnist for The Times, Jinny Blom has carefully curated this gorgeous book to bring together design ideas from gardens all around the country. The Thoughtful Gardener not only provides plenty of inspiration with stunning photos, it also offers practical advice on how to make your own perfectly-designed garden at home.

But that doesn’t mean a manicured lawn with topiary trees, a well-designed garden can be full of over-grown shrubs, blousey blooms and messy edges. That’s the lovely thing about this book; it makes gardening accessible to those of us who don’t have the time to trim the edges of our grass with scissors! Some of the gardens in this book have been growing wildly for years, but Jinny shows us how the original design allows for the plants to grow freely while still providing a surprisingly neat and calming space.

For Jinny, design is more a matter of appropriateness than imposing a particular style so it’s easy to apply her advice to your own garden. I especially like how this book shows the original landscape design drawing (I’m such a design geek!) and photographs of the finished garden really bring the project to life.

Considering that this landscape designer has created more than 250 gardens around the world (and won gold at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show) I think that Jinny’s advice on gardening is rather spot on! Whatever the shape, size of plot or aspect of your own garden, you can take inspiration from Jinny’s principles to make it work for you and for your situation. And here’s your chance to win a copy of The Thoughtful Gardener by Jinny Blom for yourself. One lucky winner will bag a copy of this newly released book and it will be sent directly to you from the publisher. 1. We have just moved to a house with a large neglected, overgrown ‘jungle’ aka garden, so we have EVERYTHING to do – make paths, dig out brambles make a pond and hopefully build some raised beds for veg. Would be brilliant for to win this book!

  2. Oh my, where to start! We’ve neglected the garden a bit recently after doing so much when we bought the house. Saying that it is intended as a wildlife garden and isn’t overgrown so it isn’t too bad. Lots of plants and thrived and some haven’t so we need to plug a few gaps with wildlife friendly flowering plants. We’ve got lots of butterfly, moth, bee and bird friendly seedlings coming up. We are hoping to add some edibles for us this year so are putting up a polytunnel on an area of pre-existing concrete.

  3. I would really like to get more display and grander plans for my containers, many thanks

  4. whole garden really needs doing since i brought the house last years its a right state the weeds are bigger than me!

  5. I’ve been putting off repainting our wooden fence all the way around the garden for the past couple of years but it’s looking very tired now so hopefully I will summon up the energy to tackle that. I also want to get a couple of pot based trees to add a little more shape.

  6. To make it more colourful! Hoping to get some beautiful flowers planted and maybe get some hanging baskets too.

  7. I want to put up some sort of hedge or fence to fence off our front garden then put in some raised vegetable beds!

  8. I would love to have lots of flowers everywhere to bring some colour to our garden.

  9. MY GARDEN IS PERFECT. PONDS BEECH TREE WILD FLOWERS, IN FACT VERY WILD INDEED PLENTY OF WILD GARLIC

  10. I would love to make more of my borders and add a few key plants i large pots around a simple sitting area.
