5 Things you can sell to make money right now

Advertisement feature

Being tight on cash is never something that is easy to deal with, especially when payday is looming ahead, and you need to catch up on the grocery shopping. There’s only so far you can stretch the larder and when you are in a position where you have to look around the house and start putting things up on eBay or going to your nearest pawn shop, it can feel pretty dire. If you need to concentrate on getting that extra cash here are a few things you could be selling to get some extra money…I’m not going to suggest you take your wedding rings to the local pawn shop and start bartering. There are plenty of things you can sell before you decide to pawn something meaningful. So, while you need to catch up with the bills and stock the larder, what CAN you sell right now?

1. Brand Name Clothing

It’s time for a clear out anyway, right? Dive into the depths of your wardrobe and find some brand name clothes you haven’t seen for a while. If you haven’t worn it or used it in a year, you don’t technically need it, so it’s time to take some photos and get listing online. It’s not just eBay, your local selling pages would be brilliant as a place to advertise second-hand brand name items, or use an app like Depop.

2. Kitchen Gadgets

That coffee machine that you bought but lives on top of the cabinets? The juicer that you only use on Sunday mornings? That waffle maker that seemed like such a good idea at the time? Yep, you don’t need those anymore. There are some second-hand electrical shops that will take kitchen items for cash, so check around those first before listing potentially heavy items online.

3. Handbags

Every woman in the world loves handbags and even more than that, they love cut-price, designer handbags. If you have a bag in excellent condition, you could be looking at 50-75% of the retail price coming to you simply by listing it online.

4. Games Consoles

One of the biggest markets for preloved items is gaming equipment. The companies that make the consoles upgrade so quickly that it’s easy to get a good sale on a year-old console and games accompanying it. If you can hang on until nearer the holidays to sell these, you should get a good price for them!

5. Smartphones

There is a growing popularity in websites where you can sell your old smartphone and accessories for cash. Smartphones upgrade quickly and even if it’s really well-used and you can only sell it for parts, there’s always someone willing to buy your phone.

Thinking ahead and adjusting budgets isn’t easy to do, so it makes sense to sell what you can now and work out the issues once you’ve got some money in your pocket. Be smart though and don’t sell anything you may actually need – it could end up costing you more in the long run! And certainly keep any sentimental items such as your wedding rings. Let me know if you can think of any other things you might be able to do to get a little extra cash at the end of the month by leaving me a comment below.

  1. Good thinking Bekki – I too have old phones that I haven’t yet factory-reset, so I need to follow my own advice and get round to emptying them and selling them haha!

  2. I’ve never thought of selling my old iPhones and have them just stuck in a drawer. Going to add them to eBay this weekend and hopefully make some extra money for Christmas presents. Thanks for sharing your tips!
