My design interview with WhatHouse?

Oooh I have some exciting news – over the Easter holidays my interview with WhatHouse? was published and I’m so pleased to be able to share it with you today. Here’s the link to the article if you fancy having a read: it’s a design Q&A all about thrifty interiors so I thought you might like to check it out (and there’s a cheesy ‘I’ve won an award’ pic of me too!)News of my award has spread really quickly and I’ve been contacted for interviews by a few different journalists over the past couple of weeks. It’s so unexpected and I’m starting to feel a bit like the Beyoncé of the interiors blogging world, haha!  The first article to be published was on the East Anglian Daily Times website – my local newspaper covered the story within hours of the results being announced. A lovely writer for the publication Megan Goodwin got in touch to interview me about the win and I was thrilled to spot my photo on the website again alongside the words “Woodbridge blogger Cassie Fairy wins National Interior Blog Award” eeeeeee! The award means SO much to me because the prize was a donation to a local homelessness charity and it has helped the brand new project ‘The Bus Shelter’ Ipswich’ as they renovated a bus into a night shelter. Check out my previous blog post about the project to read more about this fantastic charity and great idea (and maybe donate a little to the cause if you like!)

UK Blog Awards 2016 Most Innovative Blog – And the winner is…

For the first time in almost 10 years of blogging I don’t know what to write. I finally understand what people mean when they say they are speechless – but I am wordless. I’ve never sat in front of a blank page and not known what to write. But today is different. Today I should be writing something important, meaningful and… well, I don’t know. But, so far, words escape me. I’m thrilled, chuffed and living in a dream. I literally woke up this morning and couldn’t be sure if it all really happened. But all the wonderful messages of congratulations that I scrolled through on twitter this morning confirmed it. I had won!uk blog award winner 2016 most innovative cassiefairy-3 uk blog awards ceremony 2016-29You see, yesterday was the UK Blog Awards 2016 and (after a long day at work) hubby and I had driven to London to attend the glitziest of awards ceremonies. Sponsored by Odeon cinemas and held in the ultra-swish Park Plaza hotel in Westminster, it was the most amazing event I’d ever been to. Themed around the magical story of The BFG by Roald Dahl, the venue was beautifully dressed with blossom trees and jars full of dreams. The BFG himself was even wandering around the venue, photo-bombing bloggers wherever he went. It honestly felt like I’d stepped into a dream, and that’s probably why I find it so hard to believe that my dream became a reality last blog awards ceremony 2016-14 uk blog awards ceremony 2016-11 uk blog awards ceremony 2016-8 uk blog awards ceremony 2016-6 Having already chosen ‘my winners’ for each category in the awards, I knew that I was up against the stiffest of competition and most inspirational of blogs. I knew I didn’t stand a chance of scooping an award so I was simply there to soak up the atmosphere, meet some of the wonderful women that I’d been collaborating with over the past year and to seek out some of my blogging inspirations. So you can understand my wordlessness when the opposite happened and judge Sandra Donskyte – my business hero – announced me as the winner of Most Innovative Blog. I was hoisted from my comfy “I’ll just sit here and watch” seat and gently encouraged onto the stage by my husband, where I whimpered (and probably swore!) my way through collecting the award. Thank goodness Sandra and Kate Russell were there to hold me up!uk blog awards ceremony 2016-18uk blog awards ceremony 2016-20 uk blog awards ceremony 2016-21 uk blog awards ceremony 2016-26There is no word to describe that moment. Nor any moment since. I guess that word hasn’t been invented yet because I can’t seem to find any word even remotely suitable in my vocabulary to tell you how I felt. So, in the absence of words (I honestly thought this blog post was going to be blank when I sat down to write a few minutes ago!) I’m going to have to let our photographs do the talking.

I met SO many wonderful bloggers last night and I had the chance to chat ‘in real life’ to many of the folk I email on an almost weekly basis. It was the chance to meet face-to-face that really made the night special and I loved every minute. I’m hoping to collaborate with many of the bloggers I met, so I’ll be sure to introduce them to you soon. Even now I keep asking my husband whether I did actually win; I’m worried that I went up on stage and collected someone else’s award! But no, it DOES have my name printed on it, so (as long as I keep it nearby so I can continue checking) I’ll start to believe it blog award winner 2016 most innovative cassiefairy uk blog awards ceremony 2016-19 uk blog award winner 2016 most innovative cassiefairy-2 uk blog awards ceremony 2016-29Thank you all so much for the years of support, for reading my blog, for sticking with me, for commenting, for tweeting and for being my friends. My outfit for the UK blog awards

Okay, it’s my last ‘preparing for the UK Blog Awards’ post of the week and I’m sharing a snap of the outfit I’ve finally decided on for the big event. I’ve also shared photos of my shoes on Tuesday Shoesday and my make-up choices yesterday so now it’s time to show off the pretty dress I picked up from Boden.outfit for awards ceremony boden dress clutch bag hotter shoes-3Just how lovely is this swingy dress in classy monochromatic hues? I chose it for two reasons: Firstly, it fits me really well and the skirt is exactly the right knee-length for my height. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, it’s the kind of dress you want to twirl around in! The swishy skirt flares out beautifully thanks to the woven fabric and the tripes really accentuate the shape of the dress. It’s really comfortable to wear too, the knitted material is soft and drapes perfectly. I was also chuffed to bits that my dress is half the usual price because the Beatrice Knitted dress has been reduced now – so if you can’t find what you’re looking for in the main collection, a thrifty tip is to browse the clearance section too! I’m so happy with it and can’t wait to wear the on the big night.outfit for awards ceremony boden dress clutch bag hotter shoesI already showed you some snaps of my Hotter shoes earlier this week so you won’t be surprised by my decision to pair this monochrome dress with bright pink shoes. What may surprise you is my choice of red clutch bag, also from Boden. Okay, I know that matching your shoes and handbag is the kind of thing my nan would do, but I still feel a bit odd wearing pink shoes with a red bag. But I needn’t have worried because, when the bag was delivered, I discovered that it has a pink lining inside the flap of the clutch. The tomato red and cerise pink look gorgeous together – and really rather opulent. This slightly-oversize clutch is plenty big enough for everything I need to take with me to the UK Blog Awards (the blogger’s essentials: phone, camera, tickets and business cards!) and the pockets inside will keep everything organised. I’m ready for the event now – bring it on!outfit for awards ceremony boden dress clutch bag hotter shoes-4

A special honour for Cassiefairy

I’ve received fantastic news that my little lifestyle blog has been honoured by DotComGiftShop as one of their favourite blogs. They contacted me to let me know that I’d won this little award for my crafty sewing projects and that they had shared details of my blog on their ‘beautiful crafting blogs’ page. Here’s what they said about my blog “Whether you’re after ideas for your next homemade project or in need of room decorating ideas, you’ll find it all here at this gorgeous, girly blog. Ever wanted to revamp a pair of funky sunglasses or make your own roman blinds? It’s all here to inspire you! We especially love this blogger’s monthly sources of inspiration. She’s used everything from antique teddy bears to vintage wedding dresses, to get her creative juices flowing.”

They even sent me a badge for my sidebar and offered me a little gift from their site. I was so chuffed to receive this recognition and it was lovely to browse their collection of gifts to choose a treat for me. I never get to shop for gifts for myself, so this was an extra-special treat. After a fun hour of online shopping I decided on this stunning ceramic cake stand with ruffled edge. It is completely beautiful and something that I’d always wanted but never really got round to buying for myself. It’s an item of crockery that you’d only really use for a celebration, so it’s suitably apt for this special occasion and I’ll definitely remember this accolade every time I use it. Plus now I’ll be able to display my birthday cake with pride next month (although I’ll probably be making it myself haha!).

I also swooned when I saw this Christmas bunting set on sale and even though I’m trying hard not to get too excited about Christmas yet, I couldn’t help myself! It’s such a cute retro design and the duck-egg blue and pink fabric colours are perfect for my vintage caravan. It’s a really long string of cotton bunting (about 8 metres) so even my caravan will look suitably festive when I put up my Christmas decorations next month!

Massive thanks to DotComGiftShop for choosing the Cassiefairy blog as one of their favourites and awarding me with this badge, I am chuffed to bits! And now that I’ve started visiting the site regularly (checking out the deal of the day!), this store has fast become one of my favourite places to shop and I’ve got a massive Christmas present wish list – I’ll keep dropping hints to hubby and keep my fingers crossed for one of those light-up bunnies! 😉

Shortlisted for a Fashion Blogger Award – I just had to tell someone!

I know I don’t usually blog twice a day but I’ve just had some amazing news and I have to tell someone or else I’ll just pop! I just received an email from Hannah from John Greed Jewellery with the fantastic news that this blog has been shortlisted for a JGJ Fashion Blogger Award! I couldn’t believe it when this email dropped into my inbox – what fantastic news for a weekday afternoon!

Hannah says “We came together and decided we wanted to say thank you to all the fantastic blogs that we read on a daily basis as a source of creativity, innovation and sometimes just for fun. So, we (John Greed Jewellery’s design/buying/marketing/social media team) decided to say thanks in a really special way by hosting our own blogger awards online and showcasing our favourite blogs.

While I’m always looking ahead at the latest fashion trends, I am also an advocate of wearing ‘proper’ jewellery and choosing classic pieces to finish off an outfit. I love adding my own personal jewellery collection into my blog posts – above is my outfit for the Company blogger awards (see post here) which included a custom-made necklace that my fabulous friend Claire had made for me for a ‘significant’ birthday. The envelope contains a tiny wooden letter with ‘Cassiefairy’ etched into them, so it’s extra-special to me. I’m very minimal when it comes to accessories, preferring quality over quantity so I’m even more delighted that a professional design team likes what I’m doing – I can’t be getting it that wrong then, phew!

I’ve been shortlisted in their Best Fashion & Jewellery Blogger category along with lots of super-cool bloggers – including loads that I already read and adore – gulp! Stiff competition! Hannah tells me “It means we’ve judged your site to be regularly posting engaging articles highlighting various fashion trends, great use of jewellery in outfits (which is all too often forgotten about) and we love the way you write and help companies like us up to date on the latest news and trends”. It’s amazing just to get this kind of feedback: I love fashion and love jewellery but had no idea that I was actually inspiring others with my articles and that really makes it all worthwhile. So I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that the judges like what they see on the blog and I will bring you the results when they are announced at the end of the month. I’m one very happy blogger, sat here with a big smile on my face right now!

The greatest (and craziest!) news…

I can’t believe it.

This blog, my little lifestyle blog, has been shortlisted for a Company Magazine blog award.

This kind of thing doesn’t happen to me!

I especially can’t believe it because all weekend I’ve been seeing loads of blog posts pop up on my Bloglovin’ feed from my lovely fellow bloggers, all declaring that they’ve been shortlisted for a Company Style Blogger Award. So I was delighted for them all, but I’d had no email from Company magazine, so I thought no more of it – I was just excited to be able to vote for my favourite blogs and keep my fingers crossed that they would do well.

So this morning I clicked onto the Company website and started casting my votes. Now, I don’t know about you, but I take my voting very seriously, and I have a good look at all of the nominated blogs before deciding on my favourites. So this morning I had been casting my votes for about 2 hours (and adding about 50 new blogs to my Bloglovin’ list!) when I reached the Best Thrifty Blog category. And there I was – – right there, on the list. A shortlisted blog! To use the term gobsmacked would be an understatement!

How had this happened? Whaaaaaaat? Me? Nooo! I kept checking, and I read back through my emails (nope, no emails from Company) and I checked the shortlist again.  I stopped short of doing a cartoon ‘rubbing my eyes in disbelief’, but only just! And about an hour later I received an email from Sophie from Company magazine. Yes, my blog has been shortlisted for an award! Blimey! Crikey! And many more expletives!

So please please can you take a moment to vote for in the Company Style Blogger Awards 2013 – I’m in the Best Thrifty Blog category along with lots of other fantastic bloggers from all around the UK.

I don’t think I could be more proud of all my fellow bloggers – see people DO read what we write (what a scary thought!) and good luck guys, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you – and now for me too! 😉

I’ve been nominated for a Company thrifty blog award!

UPDATE: I’ve made it through to the shortlist!! So please please vote for me in the Best Thrifty Blog category if you get the chance 🙂

I had some great news earlier this week that I’ve been nominated for a Company magazine blog award! I can’t believe it! I’ve only been blogging for a couple of years, but apparently this means I’m no longer a newbie and I’ve now been nominated under the category of Best Thrifty Blog!!

I am absolutely thrilled that I’ve been nominated because I LOVE to blog (I do it every day!) and more importantly, I love to save money and pass on my thrifty savings to my readers. It’s fantastic that all my hard work has not gone unnoticed! I spend hours making DIY craft projects, upcycling clothing, finding shopping bargains and recycling furniture to try to inspire my readers to get the look for less, be super-thrifty and save perfectly good items from going to landfill. I know that I will blog forever and I love making my readers happy so I am smiling from ear-to-ear right now to know that someone likes what I do!

Please could you take a minute to click through and nominate me for the “Best Thrifty Blog” award too, as all the nominations really do add up and will put me through to the next round! Thanks lovely readers, you’ve made one blogger super-happy 😀
