AMAZING news – my blog won the award for Best Homes & Interiors Blog 2017

I’m SO excited to tell you the wonderful news that my thrifty little lifestyle blog has just been announced as the winner of the Best Homes and Interiors Blogger Award 2017!! I still can’t really believe it and I’m grinning like the cheshire cat right now!The news has just been shared by the award sponsor Tile Trader and it’s already made the headlines on the East Anglian Daily Times website – here’s a screen shot and link to the article if you’d like to have a read.Thank you all for voting for my blog in the competition, I really appreciate you taking the time to support me and it’s all for a fantastic cause – the prize is a donation of £200 to a homelessness charity in the winner’s local area. I’m delighted to be able to use my little blog to boost the funds of a brand new support service in Suffolk “The Bus Shelter”.

The charity is currently renovating a donated double-decker bus to turn it into a safe space for rough sleepers to stay. But ‘sleep is just the beginning’ (the charity’s motto) as the bus will also offer advice, cooking and washing facilities, and ongoing support. It’s a truly inspirational charity and the project is in progress right now so please get involved if you can – all donations really do make a difference and will help to get The Bus Shelter on the road sooner. You can read more and donate on their Facebook page here.

Thank you all once again for voting for my blog – it’s made a huge difference to a local charity as well as made me indescribably happy! I’m super excited  that I also receive a commemorative plaque for the award to put on the mantlepiece woo, can’t wait for that to arrive in the post – I’ll be sure to share a photo of it on Instagram @cassiefairy when it’s delivered. Thank you for continuing to support me and helping to put Suffolk blogs on the map in this national award competition 🙂

Dryathlon – My first weekend

On the first of January I signed up for the Dryathlon challenge to help raise money for Cancer Research UK and already there have been a few testing times..!

The challenge started a 9am on 1st January – luckily for me, because I didn’t think twice about swigging back a glass of bubbly at midnight to toast the new year. I hadn’t even considered that this drink was technically in January 2015, but when I read the small-print about the challenge, I discovered that the starting time was 9am on the 1st to allow for this obstacle. I read this information at about 11am and I wondered to myself whether I would have had a bucks fizz at 8am had I’d known about the 9am start? Anyway, the time had already passed and I was in full-Dryathlon-mode. dryathlon 2015 blog post Continue reading “Dryathlon – My first weekend” »

Tuesday Shoesday – A Christmas Gift in Your Shoebox

Do you remember doing a gift shoebox for charity as a child? I remember that we all used to make them at school or at playgroup each year, and as I’ve become an adult I’d just assumed that this charity gifting no longer went on. But it certainly does!  The Samaritans run www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk which asks for donations of christmas gifts in a shoebox for either a boy or a girl and they distribute the boxes to children overseas.

For the first time ever, you can now track your shoebox to find out where it goes to – make a shipping donation of £2.50 online and Operation Christmas Child will email you around Christmas time to let you know where your shoebox has ended up. There are still many local groups collecting for the shoebox appeal within the next week (I know that the village church near me is still taking donations!) so check your local newspaper or village newsletter to find out when collections or wrapping parties are going on in your area. Shoe retailers Shoezone and Stead & Simpson are giving away shoeboxes to fill, and some store are also taking collection of the filled boxes, so give your local store a call to find out their deadline for donations. And start wrapping!
