I love the Olympics & Team GB are amazing!

I confess that I’ve got nothing done this week. I’ve seriously just been glued to my TV watching every event I possibly can and have been loving every second! And then re-watching it again on the Olympic roundup every night until the early hours. I’m so pleased that I have a ‘flexible’ job! So this weekend saw the most successful day for Team GB for 104 years with six gold medal wins on day eight of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Simply amazing! Here’s some of the amazing medal winners (couldn’t fit them all on now that we have 16 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze medals!):

As you know, I’m really rooting for all the female athletes and celebrating girl power on Twitter each time the GB ladies bring home a medal! And I’m so pleased for Andy Murray finally getting his win at Wimbledon against Roger Federer. What an amazing time to take the win! Well done Jess Ennis, Victoria Pendleton and Ben Ainslie who did fantastically well this weekend – it must be tough when everyone ‘expects’ you to win; imagine the added pressure on top of the athletes’ own desperation to do their best at the home Olympic games! I think that the whole of the Olympics has been amazing so far, and the athletes are inspirational – keep up the good work Team GB!

It’s girl power at the London 2012 Olympics!

Yesterday saw the first 20120 Olympic gold medals being won by Team GB and it was girl power in action as the winners of the Women’s Pairs rowing event powered their way across the finishing line well ahead of their competitors. Olympic newbie Helen Glover and army captain Heather Stanning celebrated with hugs and tears as they won the coveted gold medals at Eton Dorney. And their faces will gracing our first class stamps as early as today as the Royal Mail rushed their print-run of commemorative stamps of the gold medal winners to post offices around the country over night – and here’s a sneak peek of the design:

And yesterday also saw UK Tour De France winner Bradley Wiggins on the top of the podium celebrating a gold medal in the cycling, making history as Britain’s most decorated Olympian. Congratulations to all the Team GB medalists so far, keep up the good work!

The Olympics start this week – go patriotic with a UK tutu!

I’ve recently added a special section to the www.TutusWingsandPrettyThings.com website celebrating the olympics with a selection of pretty tutus – there’s a patriotic England flag tutu, ‘olympic rings’ rainbow colour tutus, and plenty of red-white-and-blue costumes as well as supporter tutus for every other country you can think of!

And best of all, every tutu on the website is available with FREE delivery this week - Use discount code ‘OLYMPICDEL’ to get free delivery on as many tutus as you’d like and celebrate the Olympics with us!

The Olympic Torch Relay – in a town near you!

Yesterday the Olympic torch passed through Suffolk so I went to our local town to see it go by. Although I’m always keen to join in local events (such as the Diamond Jubilee, see my pics here) I wasn’t quite prepared for just how exciting it would be to see the Olympic torch pass by!

It had a bit of a wait for it to arrived, but this was punctuated with other pockets of excitement – the lead Olympic car driving past, the bus transporting all the torchbearers, the support lorries with music blaring – a very festive atmosphere and the time went really quickly. Luckily enough the next torch-bearer (called Alex) was dropped off the bus and was waiting to receive the flame right in front of us! (So of course mum ran over to have a photo taken with him!) All of a sudden the Olympic flame was approaching and it was a pretty quick process from it being spotted in the distance to the lighting of the next torch – called ‘the kiss’, which meant that the Olympic flame stopped right in front of us and gave us all a great photo opportunity!

Pretty soon, the torch-bearer was off on the next leg of the relay and disappeared into the distance. So it was quite a brief experience but SO exciting – I’d totally underestimated how amazing it would be! Definitely worth getting a little bit wet in the drizzle to see the kind of event that you’d tell your grandchildren about one day! If you can get to see the Olympic torch on the last part of its journey around the country, please do – its pretty cool!

The Olympics are coming – another chance to get the bunting out!

As you know, I really enjoyed the Diamond Jubilee weekend earlier this month and got into the full swing of the celebrations! And now, the Olympics are upon us and although the opening ceremony is not til the 27th July, the excitement is already revving up in out local area because the Olympic torch is arriving here tomorrow!

Of course this means that all the bunting is being put back out and the union jack is flying high once again, so I’ve had another look around the internet for more Olympic-inspired designs to get my home ready for London 2012! After a quick browse online, I decided that this was the essential item that I needed: an Olympic floor cushion!

30 inch x 30 inch Olympic Britain

Now, I’ve just moved into a small bungalow and space is a bit tight at the moment and don’t have much in the way of seating - I only have a sofa, so if more than 1 visitor comes round to watch the Olympics it’ll be standing-room-only. So maybe a couple of floor cushions would do the job to provide a couple of extra seats?! This cushion is 30 x 30 inches so is a pretty good size and I reckon that the thick fabric would be fine to use outside as well. The UK online shop that makes this British-flag design is JustFloorCushions.co.uk and they also have lots of gorgeous bright bolster cushions in crazy patterns (seriously, there’s more than 200 fabrics to choose from – mindblowing!).

I think my house could definitely do with brightening up and I’m hoping that hubby will agree and let me have access to his wallet for a quick online shopping expedition haha! What do you think of my cushion choice above?? Are you excited about the Olympics too? leave me a comment below!
