Tuesday Shoesday – 100 years of Converse All-Stars

Did you know that 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the famous Converse All-Star high-top trainers? I didn’t either until I started Googling “Converse” when I was looking for a gift for my husband. A quick search not only brought up a whole host of classic designs to choose from but also a whole lot of history about the brand itself. I’m such a geek when it comes to gaining knowledge about the things I buy so I delved deeper to find out more. Read on to find out what I discovered about Converse…Let’s take it back to the very beginning; The Converse Rubber Shoe Company (to give the brand it’s full, original title) opened its doors back in 1908 in the US, making all kinds of athletic shoes before specialising in tennis shoes in 1915. This early success led the company to develop new styles of sports shoes with rubber soles… I think you know where I’m going with this! It was in 1917 that the Converse All-Star Basketball shoes were introduced. And when basketball player Chuck Taylor put his name behind the brand in 1920, the high-top style really started to take off. It was no longer just a shoe for playing sports in. Oh no.
Over the years the iconic design has become the footwear of choice for off-duty fashionistas and is the ultimate in casual cool. Fans started customising their All-Stars to make them their own and the style was reproduced in countless new fabrics, patterns and colours. Nowadays you can even have your own design made just for you by Converse using the customizer tool on their website.

Tuesday Shoesday – Comfort shoes for a more active life

Whenever September rolls around I get that ‘new-term’ feeling. Even though I’m no longer a student, when you add up all the years that I have been studying in one way or another (yes, I’m even counting primary school), we’re looking at upwards of 20 years in education. So it’s no wonder that I still see September as the start of a new chapter – and still use an academic diary! I see it as a time to kick off some resolutions. In fact, it’s probably a better time of year to make resolutions than January, as you’ve got the end of the year as a marker for quantifying your goals. Whether it’s learning a new language (yes, I’m trying to learn Spanish this year), getting fitter, changing your working habits or improving your savings, I think that September is a great time to start.health-active-sports-shoes-walking-running-cycling-trainers-5So, why am I talking about new goals on a Tuesday Shoesday? Surely this blog post is about shoes, right? Right! But my new shoes are linked to my new-term resolutions, and here are the reasons why: I took a bit of time off over the summer and it was only when I got back into the swing of full-time work that I realised just how bad my back and neck is. I went for physiotherapy earlier this year to correct a neck problem (caused by a historical whiplash injury over 10 years ago) and I thought everything was getting better. Over the summer, I barely noticed anything wrong with my neck and all those headaches were gone. However, as soon as I got back to my desk it became obvious what the problem was – my working environment. All the aches and pains came rushing back and it was difficult to get through a full day of work. So here’s my solution, and how it links to the shoes:health-active-sports-shoes-walking-running-cycling-trainers-7I’m now a standing worker. I realised that sitting down all day was causing a lot of problems; heavy legs, pins and needles, bad back and strained neck. No matter how ergonomic my desk set-up was, I needed to get up off my bum and work standing up. So I gave it a go by moving my computer onto a higher work surface for a couple of days to see how I got on. It worked miracles. No problems at all. Apart from one small thing; my feet ached. My cheap flat pumps were clearly NOT made for standing all day! It reminded me of working in hospitality jobs when I was running around all day and really needed a foot massage at the end of the day. So one problem solved ended up causing another problem, but there was something I could do about that…health-active-sports-shoes-walking-running-cycling-trainers-12

If you need new sports clothing I think that Fabletics (designed by Kate Hudson) can’t be beaten for style and performance.

I’ve reviewed comfort shoes on my blog in the past and I discovered that, for heels, Hotter cannot be beaten. However, I’ve always struggled to find a decent pair of comfort shoes that are also a little more on the sporty side. Most flat comfort shoes are a little bit too ‘old lady’ for me (no offence) and I’ve shied away from them, preferring basic low-cost pumps when I want to wear flat shoes. I read some reviews about sports shoes and zumba shoes online (read the article at NicerShoes.com) and now I’ve finally found a pair of comfort shoes that I want to show off – they’re sporty, available in great colours and are SO comfortable it’s unreal.health-active-sports-shoes-walking-running-cycling-trainers-10health-active-sports-shoes-walking-running-cycling-trainers-2 health-active-sports-shoes-walking-running-cycling-trainers

Tuesday Shoesday: How to dye your shoes – step by step video tutorial

When you really love a pair of shoes, you find yourself wearing them at every opportunity. Perhaps they are the comfiest shoes you’ve ever worn, maybe they are the coolest colour or are an on-trend shape, or it can be as simple as ‘they go with everything’. Whatever the reason, it’s really sad when they come to their end of their wearable life. Fabric fades and scuffs appear, and they get relegated to the back of the wardrobe.blue suede shoes shoe fabric dying makeover before afterThis is especially true for suede shoes, which need a lot of looking after to stop them from looking worn. So if (like me) you’ve been a little too lazy to waterproof your suede, or haven’t given them a daily brushing, and you didn’t not wear them on rainy days, then you might have a pair of rather poorly-looking suede shoes under your bed. When hubby’s favourite suede trainers ended up faded, mucky, scuffed and stained, I knew it was either time to throw them out… or do something about it.renovate-old-suede-shoes-trainers-makeover-diy-customising-dying-shoes-tutorial-video-9I hopped online and googled “shoe dye”. It turns out that it IS possible to give his old shoes a new lease of life with dye, and I picked up this Dylon navy blue shoe dye for less than £4 on Ebay. The bottle of dye comes with instructions and a small brush and can be painted onto onto any shoes that need a makeover. The colours of shoe dye tend to be quite dark, so you can easily go from blue to navy, or something like green to black. If you want to dye your shoes to refresh them year-on-year just go one step darker each time, so red shoes could be dyed brown and next time they could be painted black. Okay, you’ll end up with much darker shoes than before, but they’ll look good as new and you already know they’re comfy!renovate-old-suede-shoes-trainers-makeover-diy-customising-dying-shoes-tutorial-video renovate-old-suede-shoes-trainers-makeover-diy-customising-dying-shoes-tutorial-video-3 renovate-old-suede-shoes-trainers-makeover-diy-customising-dying-shoes-tutorial-video-4 renovate-old-suede-shoes-trainers-makeover-diy-customising-dying-shoes-tutorial-video-5 renovate-old-suede-shoes-trainers-makeover-diy-customising-dying-shoes-tutorial-video-7 renovate-old-suede-shoes-trainers-makeover-diy-customising-dying-shoes-tutorial-video-8 renovate-old-suede-shoes-trainers-makeover-diy-customising-dying-shoes-tutorial-video-10Check out my step-by-step video below (it’s only 3 mins long) to find out how to bring your shoes back to their ‘box-fresh’ best with fabric dye (or view it on my YouTube channel here):

I hope this helps you refresh your own favourite shoes so that you can keep wearing them for years to come – and save cash on replacing them! My husband was really chuffed when he found out that I’d dyed his shoes and that he could carry on wearing his favourite comfy trainers. And when he ruins them again (on more off-road walks!) this year, I’ll simply dye them again. Good plan, eh? Let me know if you have a go at dying your own footwear, and any tips you have for looking after suede in general – it’s pretty obvious that we need some advice on this (!) so please leave me a comment below.

Tuesday Shoesday – My 2016 Essentials (at the lowest possible price!)

When you’re a thrifty kinda gal who doesn’t really want to splash out her hard-earned cash on pricey pumps where do you shop for shoes? I’ve made no secret of the fact that I want to spend less this year, (so that I’ve got more to save for the house of my dreams!) so now that I need some new shoes for the new year, I don’t want to blow the budget. Low-cost loafers are definitely ‘my bag’, people!

The trouble is, I’m also trying to clear out all the clutter from my tiny over-stuffed home. I want to streamline my wardrobe and clear out the 80% of things that hide at the back, never being worn (I wrote about my thrifty tips for making the most of your wardrobe last week). So that means that I don’t really want to be re-cluttering with a selection of shoes that I won’t get round to wearing either. No matter how much of a bargain a pair of pumps are, I won’t buy them unless they fulfil a need. I’ve got too many ‘pretty’ shoes sitting around that I’ve never worn but am completely lacking in terms of practical boots, trainers or wellies!countryside field muddy photograph tuesday shoesday welliesSo, that’s what I’ve been shopping for online this week. When you spot a gap in your shoe-wardrobe like that, you’ve got to fill it, right?! Living in a particularly muddy part of the countryside, I need wellies. If I want to go on any kind of countryside walks this year (and believe me, I do) I’m destined to come home with clods of mud stuck to the bottom of my pumps. Yes, this did happen to me at the weekend and the photo above is a footpath near my house. So wellies are clearly needed. They don’t need to be anything fancy, but they do need to be waterproof. I found the lowest prices for the wellies above at Brantano and I think I’m going to invest in these classic green Dunlop wellington boots. A timeless style and traditional colour won’t date so I can use them for years to come, and I especially love the £14 price-tag!tuesday shoesday coastal walks trainers pumps casual shoesI also managed to ruin my last pair of canvas trainers by wandering onto a muddy footpath. It looked fine at the start of the track, but ended up taking me across a very moist field. No amount of cleaning could remove the muddy tidemarks from my trainers. I don’t want to get put off walking completely, so now that I’ve got the wellies sorted, I’m sure I’ll be fine. But in the meantime, I need one pair of comfortable pumps for day-to-day wear; wandering around town and coastal promenades, that sort of thing. Tuesday Shoesday ~ Favourite shoes from the Cosmo Blog Awards

Just a month ago I was making my way to London to attend one of the most exciting events I’ve ever experienced; the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards. As an avid reader of Cosmo magazine it was the highlight of my blogging career to be nominated in the blog awards and I couldn’t believe my luck when I was shortlisted to be a finalist in the Best Lifestyle Blog category. Yes, I’d made it from 47,000 entries down to the top ten in my subject and I could not have been more thrilled. It was this good fortune that made it possible for me to attend the awards ceremony in London and, more importantly, to meet a whole host of other lovely bloggers and writers.

Today I’ve asked these lovely ladies to tell me all about their favourite pairs of shoes and why they would choose them above all others. I’ve previously written about readers shoes, back in March and April, and over the summer I’ve also shared the favourites of my fellow Blogstock attendees and the UK Blog Award winners. I’ve loved being super nosy about other people’s shoes and I’m sure that you’ve been enjoying it too so without further ado I wanted to share the photos and stories that the fabulous Cosmo Blog Award shortlisters have shared about their shoes.

TuesdayShoesday_Tasha

First to send me a photo of her shoes was my pal Natasha from award-winning blog Graphique Fantastique, an inspirational design blog with gorgeous images that always blow me away – even her Instagram pics are amazing! She sent me a photo of her favourite chunky heels which were the pair that she wore for the Cosmo Blog Awards ceremony: “I love these coral beauties, and I’m not alone – I get complimented on them every time I wear them! By day I’m 5ft3 in my Chelsea boots, by night I’m 6 inches taller and instantly feeling glam wearing these. Despite being quite high they are so comfy, and easy to walk in too – which is really important when you’re as clumsy as I am!” This isn’t the first time that Tasha has appeared in a Tuesday Shoesday ‘Your Shoes’ blog post, she also shared her favourite boots in a blog post back in May and tells me that she still lives in these boots day-in-day-out. I’m really pleased to see that her blog has been nominated for a UK Blog Award for the second year running, so please go to the UK Blog Awards website to vote for her!

megans silver shoes from the briar rose blog
I’m thrilled to report that stunning fashion and lifestyle blog Briar Rose won the Highly Commended Award for Best Established Fashion Blog at the Cosmopolitan blog awards. As one of my ‘go-to’ blogs when I need to put a smile on my face and having met the gorgeous Megan at Blogstock over the summer I was even more delighted that the award went to such a deserving blog – the content is always well thought-out, engaging and the photos are breathtaking – you can tell that she works really hard on it. She sent me a photo of her favourite shoes which put me in mind of Cinderella’s glass slippers and told me why they are her favourites; “These are my silver Marks and Spencer heels. They’re fairly basic, but I love how versatile and effortlessly stylish they are. They’re also incredibly comfortable, which is always a plus :)” If you haven’t already seen Megan’s award-winning blog, be sure to check it now!

MICHAEL-KORS-LEOPARD-PRINT-HEELS

My fellow Cosmo Lifestyle Blog shortlister Victoria from I Heart Fashion sent me a jealousy-inducing photo of her favourite heels. These leopard-print beauties are Michael Kors and I can’t help wishing that they were mine! After a recent design makeover Victoria’s website is looking gorgeous in chic monochrome and this image of her shoes is even the logo of her fashion section! I’m so happy to hear that her blog has received a nomination for the UK Blog Awards 2015 so be sure to leave a vote for I Heart Fashion too!                              abigails new Nike trainers

Fabulous fashion, food and travel blogger Abigail from AbigailAlice.com got in touch after returning from her recent trip to the US to show me her favourite trainers; “My favourite pair are actually my newest pair of shoes that I bought in San Francisco.  When shopping on holiday I always try to pick pieces that are maybe slightly different, haven’t yet come out in the UK or simply just caught my eye & this pair of Nike’s did all of that. I love the colour of them they are bright & bold but with the black background it slightly tones them down. They are super comfy with support on the ankle it makes you feel as if you have a bounce when you walk. Trainers have quickly become a part of ‘fashion footwear’ they are no longer kept in the gym bag which I love. It makes my Nikes perfect for both gym wear & of a weekend for a walk round the park (as shown in the pic) teamed with an all black outfit they are my favourite go to pair of shoes.” Having only launched her blog in May 2013, Abigail was shortlisted for Next’s Best Newcomer blog award and has achieved so much in just over a year of blogging that I can’t wait to see how the blog progresses!

Shoes for the Cosmo Blog Awards 2014 from Hotter-2

And finally, here are the shoes that I wore for the Cosmo Blog Awards. As someone who rarely wears high heels I always find it rather uncomfortable to dress up for events like this. Don’t get me wrong, it’s SO much fun and I’m very lucky that I get to go to award ceremonies at all, but I have learnt that they involve lots of standing up, mingling and dancing – so I inevitably end up walking home with my shoes in my hand by the end of the night! So I chose Hotter shoes for their famous ‘comfort cushioning’ and I trusted that they would see me through the evening in style. Luckily (seeing as I hadn’t worn them in at all) they performed their duties perfectly on the night with not a blister in sight! I’m very impressed and the heel height was just right so I have since got them in a suede and patent combo too!

I’m so pleased to have met all these intelligent and gorgeous women at the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards and I’m looking forward to catching up with them all again soon at future blogging events. Lets just keep our fingers crossed that we get shortlisted for the UK Blog Awards too and can have a good old knees-up next year! My blog is nominated in both the lifestyle category and the retail and fashion category and I just got details of how the voting and judging works, so I’m hoping and praying that you’ll leave me a vote between now and when the voting closes on the 1st December (just before my birthday, what a great birthday gift that would be!!) – here’s the link if you’d like to leave me a vote or two! 😉 Thanks!

Tuesday Shoesday ~ Menswear sale bargains

Last week I treated the man in my life to a few goodies from the ASOS sale. I was planning to buy a dress and jumper from Sugarhill Boutique, which were both reduced in the ASOS 70% off sale, so I decided to browse the menswear section to see if there were any sale bargains that my husband would like for Autumn/Winter. I spotted a few goodies and after a little bit of persuading, he sat down at the computer with me and we added some bits to my basket together.

Jumper and jeans from the ASOS sale

A new pair of jeans was essential, and he also spotted a couple of garish patterned jumpers that he couldn’t leave behind, and soon the basket was filling up nicely with a selection of sale bargains. I hate to say it, but I think he was actually enjoying shopping online, and I’m pretty sure this is one of the only times that he has ever bought clothes online – with the possible exception of tacky Christmas jumpers on EBay!

Sturdy canvas pumps ~ only £6 in the ASOS sale

What I was most impressed with was the selection of super-cheap shoes in the menswear sale and I ordered a couple of pairs of trainers for him too. We narrowly missed out on some £15 leather brogues which were sold out in his size, but many of the pumps and trainers were still available in the right size so I snapped up these navy blue canvas shoes (above) for only £6 because I knew they would be good for everyday wear, even in the spring and with shorts in summer.

My husband’s favourite retro trainers ~ £10 in the ASOS sale

These retro “green flash” style trainers caught my husband’s eye and he’d added them to the basket before I could protest. At only £10 I agreed they were a bargain (especially after we’d recently been shopping for trainers on the high street and had come home with nothing due to the crazy prices) and when they arrived they looked even better than I’d imagined. Maybe it’s because my husband is such a clothes-horse, but he made them look school-boy cool – and even the crazy jumpers looked great on him.

Unfortunately, the dress was too short for my preference (which is unusual because dresses are usually knee-length as standard for me because of my short legs!) so that had to be returned and I’ve sent hubby to the post office with the parcel today. The cloud pattern jumper was way too big for me despite being the same size as the dress, which fit perfectly other than the length, so I’ve exchanged it for two sizes smaller and am hoping that it will be just right when it arrives.

All in all it was a very successful shopping experience for my husband and I think he’ll be keen to buy clothes and shoes online again in the future. Do you like to shop in the sales too? Did you get any bargains? Please leave me a comment below or tweet me photos of your mid-season sale bargains!

Tuesday Shoesday ~ Buffalo boots

This week’s footwear trend focus is on buffalo boots and it’s quite possible that you’ve already owned a pair of these stacked-sole shoes in your youth – especially if you were a 90s teenager like me! Think back to the Spice Girls wearing platform trainers and you’ve got it! The look is all about nostalgia for the 90s and is growing in popularity. It is predicted to be one of the top youth market trends for Autumn/Winter 2014 and 2015 so if you like the look of these illuminated soles (and the extra height they give you!) get yourself a pair now safe in the knowledge that you’ll be bang-on-trend wearing them for the next two winters at least!

The whole look is pre-millennium-bug cyber girl: glitter, LEDs and computer-whites, cartoons and neon. This was pretty-much how I wanted to look in the 90s and I’m not sure that I can pull off this look now… but my little sister certainly can! She’s already been rocking high-top trainers for the past couple of years and this isn’t too far removed from that trend – it’s just been given a little extra cyber-oomph and a massive stack of foam!

If you want to know where you can buy similar platform footwear right now, there are some fab buffalo boots available at ASOS including my favourite unicorn high-tops and pink trainers below.

Tuesday Shoesday ~ YOUR shoes for April

This week’s Tuesday Shoesday blog post is all about you. Today I’m featuring all the photos and stories about the lovely shoes that my fabulous readers have sent in after seeing my last article on YOUR favourite shoes. Do you have some favourite footwear that you’d like to share on the blog? I’d love to have more of your contributions so please get in touch with a photo of your shoes, whether they are scruffy trainers or glitzy heels, if they are your favourites I want to see them! Email me a snap and a sentence about why you like them to cassie@cassiefairy.co.uk. So without further ado, here is this month’s contributions and the reasons why you love your shoes so much!

tuesday shoesday pretty silver dolly shoes

Lisa has just started blogging and she has shared this story of her silver shoes above; “I bought these bashed up beauties in Newcastle just hours after running my first half marathon. I remember hobbling awkwardly into the shop with my medal still proudly around my neck en-route to the train station. On reflection they were possibly the most inappropriate of shoes to be pushing my poor battered feet into, but it felt like such an incredible treat having lived in my trainers for the weeks leading up to that challenge. With their slight platform I always feel tall and confident in these Carvelas. They quickly became my go-to shoes for any night out that might involve a spot of dancing. The double straps make me feel secure enough to attempt the most energetic of dance moves and they are the only shoes I can dance in all night, without the need for donning a pair of rather sensible flat pumps for the journey home.”

tuesday shoesday jimmy choo silver wedding shoes

Lisa also sent me a second photo of her wedding shoes above; “In the months leading up to my wedding, I worked an evening job to save up for my dream pair of shoes for the big day. However, once the dancing started, even my sparkly new pair of Jimmy Choos were sidelined to make way for my trusty Carvelas. Whilst the JC’s made me feel extremely elegant walking down the aisle, there was only ever going to be one pair of shoes I turned to for that matrimonial boogie.”

Karine from TropicalColours skyscraper platform heel shoes

Melbourne-based blogger Karine from Tropical Colours blog spotted my last Tuesday Shoesday blog post and sent me a photo of her skyscraper platform heels (above) straight away. The photo looks like it’s stretched but they genuinely are that high! She says; “I absolutely love shoes and I just have so many!  This one however, stands out so much from the others mainly because of how high  it is! I wore these babies for my high school graduation and as much as I love  them, they were by far the worst decision ever. The height is just so painful! I  know I’m going back and forth from loving to hating it! It’s probably the best  pair of heels I’ve ever bought and the ones people always gasp at and wish they had!”

feeling stylish shoe wall and Jeffrey Campbell green wedges

fashion footwear - feeling stylish Jeffrey Campbell aztec shoe boots

Jess from inspirational blog Feeling Stylish sent me a few photos because she couldn’t narrow down her favourite shoes to just one pair – and you can see why from her ‘shoe wall’ collection! Jess tells me; “The Aztec wedge boots above are by Jeffrey Campbell, without a doubt my most favourite shoe brand ever and the green wedges are Jeffrey Campbell Damsels. I’ve never worn these out, they’re just too high for me, but they’re one of my favourite pairs of shoes because they’re a work of art! Finally, I’ve attached a picture of my favourite sandals (below). They’ve got me through miles and miles of walking and have travelled with me to all sorts of countries from Venice (where to picture was taken) to Turkey, to Sweden and so on! My blog is www.feelingstylish.co.uk. Plenty of shoes there!”

Fabulous lifestyle blogger and fellow Posh Fashion Award winner Sophie from La Vie Sophie sent me a photo of her favourite Jimmy Choos that have been going strong for years; “My favourite shoes are my Jimmy Choo Syra’s in black kid leather. I’ve had these slingbacks for nearly 10 years now and they’ve lasted like a dream. They’re beautiful, practical and comfortable, things you rarely get combined in a shoe. The pointed toe may not be for everyone, but in the time I’ve had them, pointed toes have come in and out of fashion like crazy! I have some great memories of wearing these shoes for some really special occasions and they’ll always be my favourite pair of shoes.”

So what do you think of these lovely ladies’ footwear choices? Let me know and please make sure you follow all their fabulous blogs too! If you’d like to be involved in the next YOUR shoes article please send me a quick photo of your favourite shoes and let me know why you like them so much! Tuesday Shoesday ~ YOUR shoes

If someone asked you to show them your favourite shoes, which pair would you pick and why? That’s exactly what I’ve asked my lovely readers to do and I’m pleased to report that lots of bloggers were able to answer that difficult question! I’ve compiled the images that all you fabulous fashionistas have been sending in to share with you all this Tuesday Shoesday. It’s been SO interesting to see how different their favourite footwear is and to read the reasons why these shoes have made the top of their list. If you’d like to join in with the discussion, why not send me a pair of your favourite shoes and be featured in a future Tuesday Shoesday article? Email me Cassie@Cassiefairy.co.uk and in the meantime have a read of all these fabulous stories:

Vicki from hen party planners Dizzy Events sent me the photo below of a pair of Mary Jane heels that she bought from Topshop years ago; “I have LOADS of shoes, far too many in fact but these always stand out because of the memories attached to them. My best friend Taya (co-thinker-upper of Dizzy Events) and I decided on a whim one Friday night that we’d meet outside Topshop on Oxford Street, ignore our diminutive bank balances and buy a pair of shoes. She bought a red pair and I bought these. Then we went out-out. It’s always remembered as The Night Of The Whimsical New Shoes and I don’t think we’ll ever be able to do that again, now that we’re older and responsible with our money (sort of).  They’re my favourite Impulse Shoes.” What a fabulous story – I need to go shopping for impulse shoes more often!

tuesday shoesday blogger favourite shoes dizzy events and brogues from remotely fashion

I first encountered writer and stylist Miriam during her inspirational talk at London Fashion Weekend where she and graphic designer Siobhan discussed their corner of the blogosphere Remotely Fashion and blogging within the fashion industry. They are the worthy winners of The Clothes Show Live Fashion Blogger of the Year Award so I was pretty excited to see which shoes Miriam had chosen as her favourites – these gold brogues above; “Now in their 7th year, they’re looking a little bit worse for wear, but I have yet to find a suitable replacement for my ‘dancers’!” I am completely in love with my brogues too so I know how she feels!

The creative ladies from The New Craft Society and winners of Cosmopolitan’s Best Craft Blog award got in touch to share their joint favourite shoes – Hannah and Rosie both chose their comfy Vans trainers; “We both love our Vans because they’re so easy to throw on and go. R’s are in a limited edition Liberty print whereas H’s are more basic and significantly more worn! When holes start to appear in the toes you know it’s time for a new pair!” Very true! I get through a few pairs of cheapie trainers each year, so I’ve been inspired to splash out on a decent pair this summer – especially if I can find some as beautiful as these!

tuesday shoesday favourite shoes from glitter daze and the new craft society trainers

Jenna from Glitter Daze blog couldn’t decide between her two favourite pairs of shoes – so she sent me photos of both: “I love both these pairs – the diamante pair because they are sparkly and I got them in the January sales, and the grey pair because they are so comfortable and I wore them to a friends wedding last year which I loved.” Jenna is a finalist in the wedding category of the National Blog Awards so perhaps she’ll wear one of these gorgeous pairs to the awards ceremony in April?!

Lucy from inspirational blog LucyLovesYa got in touch to share her favourite pair of trainers. If you’ve already read her blog, you’ll know how much she loves Converse and that she has quite a collection going on, so it must have been difficult to choose just one pair! “Being a mega Converse fan, my eyes popped out of my head when I saw these! I so wanted to be Wonder Woman when I was little. Just daren’t wear them too much incase they get ruined :)” I completely understand because I too had a lovely pair of cute patterned Babycham trainers that I liked so much that I didn’t want to ruin them by wearing them, but now they have tucked away in their shoebox for the past 3 years and have barely been on my feet so maybe it’s time to get them out again!

tuesday shoesday lucy loves ya and confessions of a fashion stylist blog shoes

Industry professional Janelle from Confessions of a Fashion Stylist sent me these photos of her stunning metallic strappy heels – bang on trend for Spring/Summer 2014 and super-glamourous! She says “I love these shoes because they’re perfect for a dressy look or add an instant touch of glam to a casual look.  I pair these with boyfriend jeans and a clutch as one of my favourite looks.” The metallic trend is massive right now so I’m super-jealous of these gorgeous sandals – although I’m not sure I could walk in those killer heels!

Photographer Claire from Lacey in Places shared some lovely images of her top pumps below along with a story of her childhood recollections of where her passion for shoes began; “When I was little, every weekend I used to look forward to visiting my grand parents so I could watch the Wizard of Oz on video tape. I managed to successfully beg my mum for a shiny, patent pair of red t-bar shoes from Clarks. I used to pretend I was Dorothy, being transported to a new land to meet scarecrow, tin man and the lion, then clicking my heels to go home. I hadn’t owned a pair of red shoes for years, until my friend Becky bought me these red Dune shoes. I fell in love with them, they are soo comfy and I love the splash of colour they add to any outfit. These shoes have been with me to so many new lands as I love to explore new places from Morocco, the Caribbean to trips closer to home.  I have many happy memories whilst wearing these shoes, including celebrating my 30th Birthday at work, where my friends decided to advertise how old I was!!”

In summary: Comfort is key, with lots of contributers sending in photographs of their trainers or their old faithful shoes. When heels have been chosen it’s because they are a comfortable pair of heels and the wearer can dance the night away in them. You may notice that I haven’t actually shared my favourite shoes with you, and that’s because I simply cannot choose between them! But I will make a shortlist and share them in a future blog post. I know that a few more readers are in the process of sending me photos and stories about their favourite shoes so I’m going to share another article about YOUR favourite shoes during April. If you’ve been inspired to contribute after reading all these stores above please send me your photos to cassie@cassiefairy.co.uk – I can’t wait to see what shoes YOU love the most!

Tuesday Shoesday ~ Healthy feet

Welcome to the second Tuesday Shoesday blog post of 2014. It a new year and I’ve been talking all week about the good intentions that I’ve started off the year with. I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends and blogging colleagues have been talking about new year aims rather than resolutions and I think this is a better way of looking at my plans for the new year. Traditionally, resolutions are made to be broken – just how long did I last with my main resolution?! – so anything that allows for a little more flexibility will be better in order to keep you on track with you good intentions for a longer period of time. So if your aim this year is to be more healthy, you don’t have to resolve to eat less cake and go to the gym every day, you can simply aim to become more active and include that in ever area of your life. And, believe it or not, that’s where today’s Tuesday Shoesday comes in..!

As I mentioned last week, it’s a good idea to kick-start a fitness regime in a new pair of trainers in order to help stick to your resolutions and, more importantly, the right footwear will help to support your feet and minimise the risk of injury while exercising. Whether you’re taking up running or simply aiming to get outside more for a good hike (like I am  intending – just as soon as this cold weather improves!) it makes sense to make sure you’ve got the right kind of footwear or add supportive insoles or heel cushions for women to your existing footwear in order to keep your feet in their original healthy condition. After all, you don’t want your good intentions to result in damaged feet!
