If anyone ever asked me what the best British summer drink is, I’d always plump for Pimms. As a summer spritzer drink it’s pretty universally adored; it’s girly but not too girly that the lads won’t drink it, it’s a refreshing long drink, and it’s always nice to have a bit of fruit floating in your glass!
And now, the clever-bods in the Pimms marketing department have added a union jack design label to their classic bottles in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics. So snap up one of these limited edition bottles and pour yourself a long, cool drink (and don’t forget to add your fruity ice cubes from previous recipe post!)
As you know, I really enjoyed the Diamond Jubilee weekend earlier this month and got into the full swing of the celebrations! And now, the Olympics are upon us and although the opening ceremony is not til the 27th July, the excitement is already revving up in out local area because the Olympic torch is arriving here tomorrow!
Of course this means that all the bunting is being put back out and the union jack is flying high once again, so I’ve had another look around the internet for more Olympic-inspired designs to get my home ready for London 2012! After a quick browse online, I decided that this was the essential item that I needed: an Olympic floor cushion!
Now, I’ve just moved into a small bungalow and space is a bit tight at the moment and don’t have much in the way of seating - I only have a sofa, so if more than 1 visitor comes round to watch the Olympics it’ll be standing-room-only. So maybe a couple of floor cushions would do the job to provide a couple of extra seats?! This cushion is 30 x 30 inches so is a pretty good size and I reckon that the thick fabric would be fine to use outside as well. The UK online shop that makes this British-flag design is JustFloorCushions.co.uk and they also have lots of gorgeous bright bolster cushions in crazy patterns (seriously, there’s more than 200 fabrics to choose from – mindblowing!).
I think my house could definitely do with brightening up and I’m hoping that hubby will agree and let me have access to his wallet for a quick online shopping expedition haha! What do you think of my cushion choice above?? Are you excited about the Olympics too? leave me a comment below!
In celebration of the Diamond Jubilee this weekend I’ve been on the look out for some patriotic red, white and blue shoes and I’ve come up with a list of lovely footwear from the high street that is ideal to keep the celebration going throughout the Summer and the Olympics.
These Ruby Shoo blue peeptoe heels are currently on sale in New Look, Rocket Dog spotty wedges are on sale in Barratts and Red Herring stripey sandals are on sale for only £16.50 in Debenhams! Looks like now’s the time to buy your red, white and blue summer shoes at bargain prices!
But my favourite ever patriotic shoes are these gorgeous union jack dolly shoes from Irregular Choice – I’ve seriously been coveting these for years but at around £60 a pop I think I’ll be saving a little longer to be able to afford them all!

Online art store Pictures on Walls have got into the spirit of the Diamond Jubilee by commissioning a number of popular artists to produce limited edition prints. One of those selected was famous graffiti artist Banksy, and Pictures on Walls are offering his union jack artwork (below) completely free to download in hi-res and have professionally printed.
I’m really looking forward to enjoying all that my local area has to offer to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this weekend! Today I’ll be attending a village BBQ with my family and taking part in the jubilee quiz and tomorrow I’m off to the check out the celebration picnic in the new village that we’ve just moved to (apparently there’s going to be a samba band procession too!).
On Monday its the larger town gala and later I’ll be watching the jubilee concert on TV and finally I’ll relax on Tuesday at the beer festival at a nearby pub. Blimey, I think I going to need another bank holiday to recover from this weekend!
So I’m getting into my red-white-and-blue outfit and new bunting necklace (from The Catkin Boutique) and making the most of the free activities and spending time with my family and friends. Lets just hope that the weather stays good all weekend!
