Following last week’s Tuesday Shoesday on Autumn footwear trends, I’ve been searching all week for the perfect boots for winter. I usually settle for a pair of knee-high boots from wherever’s cheapest at the time – which inevitably means that before the season is out the buckles fall off, the soles start flapping or a hole appears in the toe (which I don’t notice until the day I step in a puddle). Then I begin the whole process again the following September with the search for a new pair.
Well not this year. Oh no sir-ee. I am getting a good pair of boots. I’ve promised myself one decent pair of boots that are going to last for many years to come. So where do I start searching? I have decided to turn to the maker of the only other pair of boots that I’ve ever had survive for more than one season (and that was back when I was a teenager) Dr Martens.Back the day, they were the coolest thing you could own and I had begged my mum to buy me a pair of DM ankle boots for my combined birthday and Christmas present. I remember my joy when I could wear my Doc Martens to school on non-school-uniform day at the end of term & I felt that I was the coolest kid in the school. Those were the days of grunge and semi-goth fashion, and I still associate Dr Martens with that era, so its taken a bit of effort for me to consider them in any other way – just a leftover from my teenage years.
But I’ve now been looking around for some quality boots for a while and last weekend I saw THE boots I’ve dreamt about finding. I was at a party & asked the girl where she got her boots and was surprised to discover that they were Dr Martens. They were not the stompy-lace-up-ankle boots that I associate with the brand, but were gorgeous knee-high leather with buckles for the perfect fit. The sole looked sturdy enough for wearing in the winter without slipping but not too clumpy. The whole boot looked glamorous enough to wear with a skirt, smart enough for work and sturdy enough for stomping through puddles. Plus I already know that Dr Martens comfortable enough to wear every day. So these are the ones for me.
But unfortunately I have not been able to find this particular design to buy anywhere! Here’s some similar ones that I like the look of, but they aren’t the same ones I saw on the girl at the weekend. If anyone can suggest any alternatives, I’d be very grateful! Please leave me a comment below!
