Can you believe that Graduate Fashion Week has actually been running for 21 years?! At the first GFW Christopher Bailey won the Student Of The Year award, way back when he was still just a twinkle in Burberry’s eye. Since then, Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon and Hussein Chalayan have all taken part before going on to create their famous collections.
You can therefore imagine the excitement of this year’s winners, suddenly seeing their career path being laid out before them. As Graduate Fashion Week concluded last week the winners were announced at a star-studded ceremony; this years George Gold Award winner was Claire Jones of Bath Spa University, who combined flowing maxi-dresses with urban hoodies, and Claire also scooped the best Womenswear prize.
Also celebrating was Jousianne Propp of the University of Manchester, winning both the Knitwear title and the Karen Millen Portfolio Award, and finally Riona Horrox scooped the coveted prize for Best Menswear Collection for her faux-fur men’s jackets.
Personally my favourite collection (although, I’m not sure I’d really pull off this look) were these wacky hair-do dresses by Claire Acton from University of Central Lancashire with cute fringing and oversize clips – adorable!
