I’ve never used Pinterest before – is it any good?

In fact, I’m not even sure how it’s pronounced – is it ‘pin-ter-est’, ‘pin-trest’ or even ‘p-interest’. Not that this even matters considering that I’ve never used the site before or even looked at it. I don’t want to get left behind, and friends of mine can spend hours browsing through the site, but I can’t really understand how it works – can I find things to ‘pin’ on the Pinterest site already or do I go searching the internet to find things to ‘pin’? and if so, how do I go about pinning something from someone else’s website?

I can see that would be useful to use for me – kind of like a virtual scrapbook for me to keep notes of all the amazing things that I see online and think “ooh, I’ll come back to that when I’ve got more time” and then never actually get round to looking at it again. If was already pinned to my Pinterest wall (or is it board?) it’d be right there waiting for me whenever I want it.

And one more question – do other people see my Pinterest boards? Do other users see the items that I pin? Can I ‘follow’ other people? is it like a social network site? I may be asking obvious or stupid questions here, but I have honestly never been on the website and never found out how it works – I’ve only ever seen things that my friends have shown me whilst browsing Pinterest themselves; all of which have been amazing and inspiring things that I’d love to discover and view for myself.

Anyway, I’d appreciate any input and if anyone can answer any of the above questions that’d be great! If you use Pinterest, what’s your experience of using the site, and what do you use it for?? I’m going to check it out ‘when I get the chance’ over the coming week, so you can expect a lull in blogposts while I become addicted to it 😉
