My little vintage caravan – My crafty storage solution

If you’ve been following my caravan renovation project to turn a grubby old Sprite caravan into a cosy office and sewing workshop, you’ll know how important it is for me to create a space that is both practical and beautiful. I’ve previously addressed the damp issue and in doing so I needed to remove the majority of the existing built-in storage in order to ensure that the caravan stays dry, warm and mould-free. Even though I was able to save the bench seats and table – which has proved to be an excellent workspace for writing and crafting – I still had a severe lack of storage. After literally months of trawling the shops and searching online I found the ideal storage system that could be reconfigured and personalised for the space I had and, most importantly, didn’t cost a fortune. It might be a little out of the ordinary but here’s what I came up with:vertbaudet toys storage units

Yes, I’ve thought outside the box (excuse the pun) and have gone for children’s furniture. Although, in truth, it’s not just for the little ‘uns – this multipurpose storage system from Vertbaudet can be used in any room of the home and it was the flexibility of the design that drew me to it. I knew that I was limited on space, and many children’s nurseries are the same, so it became clear that I needed a solution that made the best use of the space without over-powering a small room. vertbaudet personalised storage solution for craft sewing workshop officeAfter a quick measure up, I grabbed some images from the website and pasted them into Publisher so that I could play around with the configuration. I decided on the combination of colours, units and doors above which was mainly inspired by Verbaudet’s photograph of the units in use – I especially loved the muted colours with white doors – very classy!vertbaudet multipurpose storage solution

I chose three of the 4×4 units and added a single box unit in the centre to create a stepped effect. I chose doors with a star pattern rather than plain doors, but that’s just because they match my star-pattern curtains in the caravan! I enjoyed creating a storage solution that is personalised to me – you can combine any number of colours, patterns, units and doors to create your own design – and I’m also pleased that the storage can grow with me as I add more craft items and specialist books to my collection.

I’ve ordered my storage solution and the items should be delivered this week so I’ll be sure to share more photos as I get to work on installing the units so come back for more caravan makeover posts soon!
