Tuesday Shoesday – Recurring trends from Hollywood

After last week’s Tuesday Shoesday spotlight on the Golden Globes, and the gorgeous strappy shoes worn by Jennifer Aniston, J-Lo and co, I realised that this trend popped up around this time last year. Yes, I browsed back to my blog post about footwear trends from the 2014 Oscars and there they were; minimal heels with delicate straps. Okay, they were all black last year, and the 2105 nominees have chosen slightly more sparkly shoes but the straps remain the same. This made me think about other footwear trends that have lasted from season to season or year upon year and I decided to check out photos from last year’s Golden Globes ceremony to see how much fashion has changed since last January.NBC's "71st Annual Golden Globe Awards" - Arrivals

I quickly spotted a footwear trend amongst the actresses who had decided to go for slightly shorter outfits; softly pointed toes.  This style has definitely continued into THIS years awards season and I’ve found a number of Hollywood stars who are rocking the look at the 2015 Golden Globes too. My first stop for fashion is always Zooey Deschanel; her styles are always full of personality yet consistently on trend, so I love to check out what she is wearing to get inspiration. Her choice of softly pointed, beaded heels for the 2014 awards ceremony were cute and Cinderella-esque, and looked great with her fairytale Oscar De La Renta gown.

Following on from last spring’s pointed-toe-strappy-heels ladylike trend from Dior and Lanvin, these shoes are delicate, with a soft point and low kitten heels. Unlike the sharp-pointed killer heels, these softly pointed shoes are considerably more girly and work well with dresses. The shape lends itself to a variety of soft fabrics such as satin and velvet, and look like comfortable ballet shoes with a short heel. This style is often created in pastel and metallic colours so these softly-pointed shoes are perfect for the coming spring/summer season and the heels are low enough to ensure comfort during all-day wear – great for weddings!Michelle-Dockery-Oscar-De-La-Renta-Golden-Globes-2015-fashion-shoes

Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery made me swoon over her perfect Oscar De La Renta dress and simply gorgeous velvet pointed toe shoes. I actually want to stroke the shoes and am desperate to own a pair of dusky velvet heels – in fact, I want to wear the whole outfit and head to Downton for afternoon tea right now. I’ve seen velvet heels in dusky shades on the high street over the course of 2014 and now I wish I’d bought a pair last year because I would definitely have got a couple of year’s worth of wear out of them! If I can find those dusky pink velvet kitten heels again, I will snap them up for this summer and hope that the trend continues throughout 2015.saldana-Bottega-Veneta-golden-globes-2015-fashion-shoes

And other Zoe has made today’s blog post with her shoes for THIS year’s Golden Globes; Zoe Saldana chose a pair of skyscraper heels with a softly pointed toe to wear beneath the lace hem of her Bottega Veneta cocktail dress. While I’m not a fan of the outfit, the satin shoes in ballerina pink satin are perfect for this trend. I would prefer a lower heel, just for comfort, but the colour and fabric are gorgeous – just right for spring/summer 2015.kerry-washington-golden-globes-2015

Other women who have brought last year’s trend up-to-date for the 2015 Golden Globes include Kerry Washington and 90210 actress Jessica Parker Kennedy (below). Again these are velvet versions of the softly pointed toe and they look gorgeous with darker dresses for winter. The toes of these shoes cover less of the foot than last year’s shoes, so maybe that’s the way to wear softly pointed heels for 2015? And pairing them with a Mary Katrantzou gown like Kerry did this year doesn’t hurt either!72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Most of the actresses that we’ve talk about today were wearing a tail hem gown, which raises the dress a slightly at the front with a longer hem at the back – perfect for showing off gorgeous shoes! I could go on and on about Zooey Deschanel’s tulle prom dress but the stand-out dress of last year’s Golden Globes was Master of Sex star Caitlin Fitzgerald’s structured bright blue gown by Emilia Wickstead. It shoes off her two-tone version of the softly pointed shoe perfectly. Sandra Bullock’s colour block outfit by Prabal Gurung was a stunning satin version of the tail hem dress and I swear that she just gets younger and younger every year. What do you think of this trend? I’ve seen a lot of kitten heels already on the high street in fabulous metallic shades and I am bursting to get a pair of softly pointed shoes in ballerina pink ready for summer. What do you think of these tail-hem dresses too? Is it something you would choose or do you feel that they are too ‘weddingy’ for occasion wear?
