Guest post – Get ready for summer with these shabby chic picnic ideas

Collaborative feature

Summer is coming, the sunshine beckons, and picnics will undoubtedly be on the menu. After all, a meal outside in the beautiful British countryside is a truly divine experience. I’ve already been enjoying meals out in my vintage caravan during the week and loving every moment of being surrounded by tweeting birds and buzzing bumble bees. vintage caravan interior with biscuit cushions and cat-5This weekend I’ve been researching some picnic ideas, including pretty locations in the local area and ideas to make my picnic even more quaint and homely, such as floral lunch bags from BronteRose.co.uk. I also want to get that cute vintage feel when eating at home on my patio so here are some of the shabby chic ideas I found to add some vintage flavour to your surroundings this summer, whether you’re out exploring or dining at home.

Can’t you just see the cute radiating from this picnic set? Those light, summery colours and dainty floral designs define summertime and the emotions it makes us feel. The bouquet of flowers are also a nice touch; a fragrant centrepiece that completes this outdoor dining setting.

When it comes to desserts, nothing says quaint quite like the humble cupcake. Bring out some sweet treats on this adorable wire display stand at your next shabby chic event. With lace trimmings on top and some accompanying flowers alongside, you can make the perfect summer centrepiece for a garden party or afternoon tea.

While your picnic needs a basket or two to carry the food and drinks, who says these can’t be shabby chic? By adding a cute frill or bow and some quaint lace material around the outside, you can transform any basket into something light, summery and fun!

Can you imagine having this sumptuous feast in your garden? The perfect assortment of sandwiches, cheeses, biscuits and scones plus that vintage floral tea set and the simple yet elegant metal display stand – everything is just perfect for a fun meal in the summer sunshine.

Just look at all those flowers! Even the thermos flask and the cake tin are adorned with bright beautiful blossoms. The idea of putting desserts into individual jars is a fantastic way to serve up pint-sized sweets for your guests. Add in a wicker basket and a vintage chequered tablecloth and you’re ready for the great outdoors!

Do you have your own shabby chic picnic set ready for this summer? What have you included? I’d love to hear your ideas and suggestions so please let me know in the comments section below! I’ve also found a discount code while browsing BronteRose.co.uk so I wanted to share it with you too in case you’re going to be shopping for shabby chic accessories any time soon – it’s FRIENDS_5 which gives 5% discount off any online order.

  1. Ooh I’d love to go to an open air cinema again, you’ve just reminded me what fun it is! Thanks Laura 😀

  2. I can’t wait for summer picnics! Last year me and some friends went to an open air cinema and we took along a hamper and lots of homemade goodies, it was such good fun, now I want to buy my own cute wicker hamper. I love the idea of decorating the patio as well! x
