Tuesday Shoesday – FitFlops review

Hi everyone, how was your bank holiday weekend? It was surprisingly sunny here so we enjoyed a lovely weekend off, and I finally had a chance to pop on my new sandals and test them out. Yes, I picked up a pair of FitFlops from the flipflopshop.co.uk a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been eagerly anticipating the day that it was sunny enough to encourage my chilly toes out of their trainers and into these sandals.tuesday shoesday fit flops shoes-10Of course, I’d heard lots about FitFlops over the past 7 years since the range first launched and had wondered just what was so special about these sandals. When it came to choosing a pair of summer shoes this year I decided to do a little more research into the brand and see what all the fuss was about.tuesday shoesday fit flops shoes tuesday shoesday fit flops shoes-2With celebrity fans such as Nigella Lawson, Julianne Moore and Michelle Obama, FitFlops have been flying off the shelves since they were first launched back in 2008 and thanks to a rapidly-growing range of styles, colours and materials, there seems to be a FitFlop (shoe, pump, trainer or sandal) for every occasion. I used to think that the original flip flop version looked a lot like a ‘health shoe’ – very supportive and styled like a trainer in bright colours – but now the range isn’t just for fitness; it’s about comfort too and they have plenty of options for everyday wear. tuesday shoesday fit flops shoes-8The thing that sets this brand apart from others is the level of comfort (and health benefits) of their British-designed Microwobbleboard sole. It absorbs shock and minimises pressure on the heels and balls of your feet – the two places where I suffer most when wearing summer sandals. The sole’s design increases contact in the midsole area, encouraging the wearer to use their feet and leg muscles more effectively, and therefore toning the leg muscles while walking. I think it would take a lot of regular wear to make a big different in muscle tone but in terms of comfort they cannot be beaten.

The brand’s ultra-comfort claim was put to the test when I slipped these sandals onto my feet for this first time over the bank holiday weekend. I always expect to have some kind of soreness after an initial wear of a new pair of shoes, be it a little heel blister, aching instep or strap rubbing, but this time I had no problems at all. A long walk along the coast was problem-free and I continued to wear them around the house when I got home. I’d usually be tearing a new pair of pumps off my sore feet the minute I get through the door but these were still as comfortable as the first time I popped them on.tuesday shoesday fit flops shoes-6 Aside from all the health benefits of these shoes, they also look pretty fab, wouldn’t you agree? I’ve been eyeing up Birkenstocks on the feet of celebrities all year and I think that the style of these ‘Skinny Leather’ Fitflops are a great dupe (and no one would know you were wearing them to tone up!). They are supple leather, with those on-trend buckles and a very similar shape to the Birkenstock toe-post sandals. Plus, they are super-comfortable and ideal for that kind of throw-on-everyday style. The only difference that I can see is the sole but, as the FitFlop sole has the microwobbleboard technology, I think that’s an improvement on the cork base of the Birkenstocks and definitely adds a level of comfort I’ve not experience in sandals before.

So far, I am really rather happy with my FitFlops and they are definitely worth the investment in you want a pair of sandals that you’ll wear all summer, and next summer too. The Flip Flop Shop are currently offering £5 off this style too so now is the ideal time to invest. Let me know what you think and please get in touch if you have tried FitFlops already – I’d love to hear whether they have worked for you in terms of muscle toning too so leave me a comment below or tweet me @Cassiefairy.
