A newly landscaped garden & JUST EAT app review

Well, that was a busy half-term week. My family and I spent the week at my mother’s house doing some major landscaping in the garden. We dug the uneven ground, we laid a patio, we shovelled gravel. We drilled, cut and nailed all week in order to create mum’s dream ‘garden room’, with raised beds, herb garden, trellis and even a chunky wood dining table! It took a full five days of everyone labouring hard, and last night we finally put our shovels away and stood back to admire our handiwork.landscaped garden room-3After more than twenty years in her home, mum finally had the garden of her dreams and although we were all exhausted by the end of the week, the result was worth it. I’ll be sure to share photos of the process with you soon but in the meantime I wanted to share a quick snap now that I can finally relax.

from this…                                   …to this

Imagine the scene at mum’s house last night, when a tired, muddy yet happy family finally sat down on those ‘rustic’ handmade benches at the end of the day. Yes, we’re aching in places that we never knew existed and couldn’t possibly face the idea of cooking that evening. So the chance to review the JUST EAT app came along at just the right time!

I downloaded the app and within minutes I was searching for a local takeaway – I used mum’s postcode, but it was also possible to geo-locate to find the nearest restaurants. Living in a rather rural area means that we are usually quite limited to the kind of takeaway we can have (it’s the kind of place that still has a fish ‘n’ chip van that visits weekly!) but I was surprised that there were plenty of takeaway options nearby. I searched through the cuisines to find an Indian takeaway and I checked out the restaurant’s ratings and reviews before making my choice.

Although the restaurants couldn’t deliver quite as far as mum’s house, they do offer a collection option via the app, so I could still order the takeaway for our over-worked family that evening – there’s a mini-fist pump moment right there! I selected the collection option and sat down with my family to scroll through the menu to choose starters, main courses and side dishes that we could all share for our Indian feast.

We added items as we scrolled through, then reviewed our basket to see if we’d duplicated any items and were quickly able to edit our order. The whole process was so much quicker than our usual takeaway routine, which involves passing the paper menu around, one member of the family writing out everyone’s choices, phoning the takeaway to order, gathering together the correct money (sometimes needing to go via a cash machine) and then setting off to collect it. Using the JUST EAT app was so much more simple – we’d placed the order, paid by card and had email confirmation of the order within minutes.

We sent mum off to collect the order from the takeaway while we finished tidying the garden, cleaning our muddy tools and laying the table for dinner – by which time she was already back with a bag full of delicious-smelling Indian food. We actually couldn’t believe how much food we had when it arrived, as a lot of the starters and dishes came with side sauces or salads so we had even more than we expected – a true feast for a tired bunch, well deserved after a week of hard work! Mini Fist Pump!

I’d definitely use the JUST EAT app again to order my favourite takeaway foods, it makes the whole process so much more simple – and really fast when you just need food after a hard day of work. Also, I think that the geo-locate feature is great – it’ll come in useful when I’m away on holiday later in the year and need to find a restaurant without knowing exactly where I am, haha! 1. I love the garden transformation! We’re part way through ours at the moment, working on it each weekend. I’m in a similar boat where I live in that the Just Eat App doesn’t really cover my area (too country bumpkin!) but I had never thought of using it if I go away – great idea! x

  2. Very true Lisa, it was so late by the time we finished that it was v chilly, looking forward to summer meals out there though! 🙂

  3. Aw thank you Suze! I’m looking forward to future BBQs there now that it’s done! 🙂

  4. The new garden room looks fabulous! I especially love the chunky wooden furniture. Your Mum is lucky to have such talented and kind help on hand. Well done!

  5. What a wonderful transformation of your mum’s garden. It’s a shame it isn’t quite warm enough yet to be outside in an evening, if it was you could have enjoyed your takeaway outside and admired your handiwork at the same time!
