Best wedding & party songs of all-time

Weddings and parties are wonderful occasions. If you talk to practically anyone about their favourite experiences the chances are, somebody’s wedding day or anniversary party will be on that list. I’ve been to a couple of weddings already this year and the best part was dancing the night away with my friends. And I cannot wait for all upcoming festive parties and New Years celebrations… bring it on!

Good weddings are magical occasions when everyone can relax and enjoy each other’s company. It’s a chance to re-connect with everyone, celebrate a marvellous event, create new memories, dress up, do something special and have a lot of fun. An important element of any wedding is the dancing.

There really is nothing quite like a buzzing dance floor full of family and friends having a great time. Unsurprisingly some records get everyone up dancing and enjoying themselves, whilst others do not really work for a wedding. The popular songs are the ones that you hear being played at every party you go to, and the ones that you’d be disappointed not to hear, like “Walking on Sunshine” or Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration”.

The list is long but here are the best of them, my floor-filling favourites:

I Heard it Through the Grapevine This is a classic song that is not too fast, not too slow. It is a great song that spans the generations and gets everyone singing along, at least for the chorus.

Everybody Anything from The Blues Brothers always goes down well. Most people have seen the movie, it has something of a cult following. The film featured some iconic singers and songwriters, so most songs from the movie work well for a wedding.

I Feel Good Speaking of which James Brown is a great example. His hit I Feel Good is a great crowd pleaser.

Le Freak Moving on into the 70s, the hits of Chic are high energy and popular across the generations. Le Freak is always a good wedding song, but Good Times is popular too.

Everybody Dance Everybody really does get up and dance when this Sister Sledge classic is played.

Holiday If you want to keep things high energy Madonna’s Holiday works really well.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody Whitney Houston made some great wedding songs including this one. A bit slower than most of the songs already covered on the list, but fast enough for the kids to enjoy.

Relight My Fire No wedding would be complete without a Take That song, and this is a great one.

Happy Pharrell William’s iconic hit, Happy, is known by everyone, so it is one of those recent songs that does not see the older generation sitting out a dance.

Uptown Funk Oddly, Bruno Mars Ft Mark Ronson also appeals to practically everyone and Uptown Funk is one of the band’s best wedding hits.

Hire the right band As you can see, the favourite wedding songs cover the entire spectrum of music, which means that you need to hire a band that can play in a wide range of musical styles and do it well. Vibetown the wedding band from the Leeds area are a great example of the kind of band you need to be looking to hire.
