How to create a fresh kitchen look for less

It’s a well-known fact that everybody looks for ways to save money at the start of the year, especially straight after the ‘excessive’ festive period. It’s also well known that once winter is over, we start to look around our homes with fresh eyes and start to notice little jobs that need to be addressed – like the chipped painting on the kitchen units or the scratches on the floors. 9 times out of 10 there are plenty of ways to give your home a facelift without spending ridiculous amounts. Here are a few tips on how you can make your kitchen look and feel fresh but save yourself some money at the same time.small kitchen makeover chalkboard paint yellow rug tiny room interior design blue walls-5storage-diy-interior-design-small-kitchen-makeover-bathroom-unit-cupboard-recycle-upcycling-2

Clean out the cupboards

Cupboards are by far the hardest thing to keep tidy. They’re either too full or things don’t fit in them properly. The best thing to do is have a spring clean of the cupboards. Think “tidy kitchen, tidy mind”. Sort through all of the unused/unwanted items that have accumulated over the years and just keep what is necessary. You don’t have to throw anything away, just rehome it to another cupboard with more room or even sell them on and use the money for a few kitchen touch ups! Once the cupboards are neat and tidy you’ll notice a difference instantly. Luckily, the kitchen cupboards aren’t always seen from the inside, so if you don’t have to time or the patience to clean them don’t worry!

Easy design updates

A great way of giving life to a kitchen is easy… replace the cupboard doors. It’s as simple as that. With your ideal kitchen design in mind you can recreate a look by choosing different finishes or adding new colours. There are so many cheap kitchen units on the market (I’ve seen some for less than £10 recently!) that come in an amazing variety of colours and finishes. It’ll give your standard kitchen units a new lease of life, and you’ll get years more use out of them. And the beauty of replacement kitchen doors is you’re open to more choice, because you don’t have to worry about budgeting for the whole kitchen, it’s just the doors! It’s always best to shop around for cheap kitchen cabinet doors before jumping straight in and purchasing the first ones you find. A great starting point for your search would be KitchenWarehouseLtd, they focus mainly on replacement doors  and therefore have a great range of different finishes, colours and prices.

Give your flooring some TLC

The floor is by far the most neglected part of the house, yet it’s one of the parts of the home that makes such a difference to the overall look. People think of the kitchen as being a large expensive project, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s the smaller changes you make that create a bigger impact. Cleaning or reviving your kitchen floor does not need to be a huge task – if you have wooden floors it can be as simple as a quick varnish or re-staining. For those of you with marble flooring, why not hire an electric marble floor polisher and add some shine back to those tiles. Just giving the tiles a clean with a homemade floor polish recipe will make all the difference!diy kitchen sewing projects peg bag and bag holder-20 diy kitchen sewing projects peg bag and bag holder-11

Now you’ve done the hard bit…

Once you’ve given your kitchen the spring clean it needed, it’s time to show it off! The best way to enjoy your hard work is by letting others enjoy it too. Take pride in your kitchen and its fresh appearance by inviting some friends over for a dinner party and enjoy the compliments! But remember, don’t let them make too much of a mess, haha!
