Spring home inspiration

Collaborative feature

Just look at that blue sky out there today. Easter definitely brought a new optimism for the coming seasons with it this year. What started off as a rather dull bank holiday weekend soon turned into a run of bright and sunny days. Okay, the rather windy storm ‘Katie’ brought down some trees in the village but even so I still needed to wear sunglasses as I drove past the debris earlier this week! Either way, this time of year always sparks a decorating project or two (yes, I WAS in B&Q with all the crowds of DIYers last week!) and now that Easter has passed, it’s definitely time to do that Spring clean too.

So, I want to know – what does your ideal Spring home look like? Do you add lighter soft furnishings to your living room or do you bring fresh flowers into the home? As a child I remember helping mum to change the dark velvet ‘Winter curtains’ over for the pale green cotton ‘Summer curtains’ at this time of year and, as an adult, I too tend to make a few springtime changes to my décor in March. I have a couple of rather autumnal cushions (that I made from RSPB placemats – here’s my DIY cushion project) that I get out every October and put away again every April. I could probably live with them all year round, but I kind of like the ritual of a change-over. Plus, it’s nice to spruce up your décor without having to spend out on new products!diy craft sewing project RSPB bird cushions with Christmas robins finished pillowEven though I’m hoping to keep spending to a minimum this year, I’ve been looking around for Spring interiors inspiration (on Pinterest, where else?) with the aim of DIYing a few ideas for my own home. Browsing photos of sunny interiors gives me plenty of ideas for injecting a bit of Spring magic into my home. My first plan is to bring some flowers into my home, but these don’t have to be cut flowers. These can add up to quite an expense, especially if you want to have flowers in your house every week. So how about potting up some buds and bringing them indoors to brighten up the kitchen or living room? Just remember to keep them watered and they’ll last you for months!

There are certain colours that I tend to associate with Spring too; pale blue, yellow (it must be all those daffodils and bluebells!), green, lilac and lots of bright white. I don’t know why but I tend to associate pinks with Summer so I often don’t add any pink to my rooms until June onwards. Of course, reds and oranges always make a comeback towards the end of the year, but I do like the hot summery combination of orange and pink in general. Still, that’s a little too much bold colour for this time of year. Now that I’m thinking about it I’m pretty sure that I’m heavily influenced by the colours in my garden throughout the year and naturally bring these floral hues into my home according to the season. Do you do this too?

I’ve found plenty of inspiration for Spring interiors when browsing the Clover & Thorne website this month. This brand makes beautiful made-to-measure curtains and blinds but for a fraction of the price of usual made-to-measure services. They are able to keep overheads low by keeping their retail offering online without cutting corners or sacrificing quality. I have been pleasantly surprised by the vast range of gorgeous spring patterns and summery colours available so it’s well worth having a look at the range if you’re considering some new window treatments this year. When I decorate my new home I will be looking to Clover & Thorne to make my blinds because they offer a great guarantee; even if you mis-measure your windows, you can return the products for a replacement or to be altered. Very reassuring!

If you too have been browsing Pinterest for Springtime inspiration, why not put all those hours of pinning to good use and enter Clover & Thorne”s very first Pinterest competition? They have £1000 worth of Clover & Thorne window treatments up for grabs in their ‘Spring Home’ Pinterest competition, where you’re invited to create an inspiring Pinterest board of Spring home inspiration. This can show images of the colour, style, furniture, lighting and accessories that you would choose to create the Spring home of your dreams. We’re talking all sorts of images from neutral to bright colours, natural to gloss finishes, whatever it is that shows off your personal style when it comes to home interiors in spring time – it’s time to get creative and get pinning!

It’s well worth entering the competition before the 17th April deadline as the first winner will win £500 worth of window treatments, the second and third selected winners will win £250 worth of window treatments each and every entry will receive an exclusive discount code as a thank you for entering. The details of the competition can be found on the Clover & Thorne blog. Let me know if you do enter by leaving me a comment below as I would love to see your inspirations for a gorgeous fresh Spring home. Now, I’m off to do some pinning myself!

  1. Like your Mum & you, I change my curtains & my cushions. When the clocks change so do my soft furnishings, this year I’ve added changing my bedlinen too. It’s like redecorating but without the cost.
I tend to buy Lilies at £5 a bunch they last 10 days and act as natural air fresheners too, especially the white & pale pink ones even when reduced they last a decent time.
Pots of herbs on my kitchen window sill and daffodils from the garden at this time of year.
If you do buy Lilies be aware every part is poisonous to cats, I keep mine out of reach of my 4 who thankfully have never shown any interest in them.
