Celebrating the BAFTAs & red carpet style

Red carpets, high glamour, cocktails and luxury food. And that was just at my house! Last night was the BAFTA ceremony in London and the excitement has spread all the way to my little home in East Anglia where we had an enjoyable little party at home. Of course, it’s ‘my job’ to keep an eye on the red carpet and report back on all the fabulous fashion from the event but this time we actually decided to celebrate ourselves by getting dressed up, pouring a drink and enjoying a few party treats.

It was a rather fun evening as we popped open a mini bottle of champagne (I get so dizzy if I drink any more than that!), mixed up some drinks and nibbled on gourmet popcorn. When we missed the occasional award – while mixing up more drinks and fixing our evening meal – we managed to keep up with all the gossip from the big event on Twitter – thank goodness the winners we’re all announced live on social media!

We also caught up with some backstage clips on the official BAFTA website, yet I think the most fun part of it all was seeing the winners’ selfies being retweeted on the BAFTA Twitter feed. The photos we’re just like the pics that all us bloggers had tweeted only last Friday at the UK Blog Awards haha!

Anyway, back to our little BAFTA party – Did you know that the BAFTAs were sponsored by House of Fraser this year? Well, with that in mind I chose to wear a pretty floral dress that I’d got from HoF last month. It’s made by Uttam Boutique and the print is a summery ditsy pattern so it’s called the ‘Kadinsky’ dress. I love the subtle crochet details on the waist and sleeves. There were quite a few floral gowns on the red carpet – worn by Angela Scanlon, Helen McCrory, and Emily Berrington – so I felt like I was on-trend for once!

I was also pleased to see some high street dresses on the red carpet. Can you believe that Poppy Jamie’s black and white floral dress is actually from House of Fraser? It’s a full-length gown by Needle and Thread with beautiful sequinned flowers applied to a layer of delicate chiffon. I really love the monochrome design yet, if you look closely, it actually has a few subtly coloured sequins too, which make it more of a spring outfit than a dark winter dress.

We decided to try out the official BAFTA cocktail, the HOFtail so I picked up the ingredients earlier in the week ready to shake up the cocktail this evening. Here are the ingredients and method (plus a video of the mixing process) from the HOF website:

Ingredients: 50ml Dry Gin, 20ml Sugar Syrup, 20ml Lemon Juice, 1 Egg White, 2 Raspberries

Method:
1. Add the gin and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker.

2. Combine water and sugar and bring to the boil to make the sugar syrup. Add the cooled syrup to the mixture.

3. Crack an egg and separate the yolk from the white. Add the white to the cocktail shaker.

4. Dry shake the mixture in the cocktail shaker, before adding ice cubes and shaking again.

5. Strain the mixture into a cocktail glass and enjoy (responsibly, of course!).

This is a great take on a traditional ‘sours’ drink, with lovely tart lemon juice, sweet syrup and my favourite fruit raspberries. Seeing as I love whisky sours and amaretto sours, I was pretty sure that I’d like this drink. Thankfully it didn’t disappoint and it’s become one of my firm favourites for summer. Here’s a quick YouTube video with instructions on how to make it at home:

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the BAFTAs at home this weekend, and it’s definitely something I’d like to do each year. Why not, when it’s free entertainment and a good excuse to celebrate? Let me know if you too were following the awards live on Twitter or got dressed up to watch the BAFTAs at home by leaving me a comment below – I’m sure I’m not the only one!
