Thrifty fashion – Re-wear your wedding clothes

Advertisement feature

When you plan your wedding outfit, it’s with the knowledge that it’s only for a day. For this reason, some brides choose to hire their dress, and many grooms hire their outfit too. But it’s much more common for a man to hire his wedding outfit than for a woman. Brides want to have that special dress that’s only theirs and keep it forever. This week I finally unpacked my own wedding dress and even though it’s beautiful, it takes up a lot of space and I know I won’t ever be wearing it again. However, it IS possible to get more use out of your wedding outfit if you consider the future uses when making your choices – here are some wedding day items that can be used again and again.

A Dress You Can Wear Again

The dress, if you choose to wear one, is the main part of your wedding outfit. It’s usually white and pretty fancy, and often something you won’t have a reason to wear again, even if you wanted to. Unless you regularly attend grand balls, you’re going to look out of place in a huge dress with a train! However, there are other options. Firstly, you can keep your dress simple. Choose a style you can wear to other events, from formal parties to restaurant dinners. If you choose a white dress, you can always dye it, or you can pick another colour to get married in. Another option is to recycle your dress and turn it into something else – another dress or something different entirely.

Your Wedding Shoes

Your shoes can also easily be worn again. The main issue for many women is going to be that they’re white or cream, if you decide on one of those colours. They’re not exactly practical shades. So, while they might be fine for standing in a registry office and dancing at your wedding reception, they’re not as great for walking around in. As with your dress, you can dye your shoes (or get someone else to do it), so they’re more practical for wearing again and again. Of course, you can choose something completely different for your wedding shoes, so if you’ve had your eye on some sparkly heels for a while, now is the time to treat yourself to them!

The Jewellery

The jewellery you wear on your wedding day is easily worn again. Firstly, there are diamond engagement rings and wedding rings, which are (of course) designed for you to wear for the rest of your life. But there are other pieces of jewellery you can be sure to wear again, even if you don’t have them on every day. For example, the necklace or earrings you wear might be a bit fancy to wear to the office but you might still be able to wear them to someone else’s wedding, to an evening event, or to a special night out with your husband.

Other Items and Accessories

There are several other things you could end up using again after your wedding day. Maybe you bought a gorgeous lingerie set that looks and feels great. Or perhaps you wore something in your hair that you can wear again. Cover-ups, boleros and wraps can be worn more than once, and you might use a clutch bag that could be ideal for special occasions in the future. The same goes for all of your husband’s outfit too – a great suit can be worn for other occasions, a crisp white shirt can be used for important meetings, and well-made leather shoes can be a wardrobe staple all year round.

Your wedding outfit doesn’t have to be a one-and-done affair. Get more for your money by making use of it again and again. Let me know if you can think of any other fashion items that you might be able to use for your wedding day and will wear again and again by leaving me a comment below 🙂
