What you wear says a lot about you and can even improve your self-confidence. Not only do the changing fashion trends keep life interesting, but adding new on-trend pieces to your wardrobe can give you a much-needed boost. In case you’re thinking of updating your wardrobe for summer 2018 and are looking for ideas, here are some fashion-forward trends that you might want to try…

1. POLKA DOT DETAILS

Polka dots were quite famous in the early 90’s and they’re back in style with a bang, and there are plenty of options to suit the season and reason. Adding some polka dot shirts, blouses, tank tops, skirts, and mini dresses to your wardrobe adds just a touch of playfulness and, if you like them, this pattern can become a year-on-year staple.

2. DARKER DENIM

Truth be told, denim never goes out of fashion. As timeless as it is, it’s how you rock denim that matters most. Having dominated the nineties (think B*Witched!) darker denims seem to be coming back at hurricane speed. If you don’t have some denim jackets and jumpsuits in your wardrobe yet, its about time you went shopping! You can easily achieve a sophisticated evening-out look with a sleek tailored blazer on top with some dark denim, jeans and heels.

3. THE TRENCH COAT REVOLUTION

No one can deny the fact that trench coats have been around for years as a fashion staple. But thanks to the advancing creativity of designers, these coats have taken the fashion world by storm. They’re no longer just an “old classic” top layer and are available in newly revamped cuts and stylish colours. The main trick is to play with colours and textures to make a statement that suits your personal style. Bold hues such as dark green, red, grey, and violet are on-trend for 2018 and will probably see you through the winter when combined with a cosy scarf and hat.

4. CAT’S EYE SUNGLASSES

It’s important to have sunglasses in your accessories collection at all times of year – not just during the warmer summer months. Choose some with 100% UV protection to keep your eyes safe. Take a quick sneak into the IG profiles of popular Hollywood stars such as Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid and see how they rock these gorgeous classic shades.

5. CHECK PRINTS

Check prints were seen all over the fashion world in 2017 – especially on suits. Whether it’s an oversized checked blazer on a tailored pair of trousers or a cute “Cher from Clueless” miniskirt, check prints tend to make a polished and sophisticated statement. As a matter of fact, you can even pair your check print blazer with a pair of casual jeans to achieve that fashion-conscious-yet-dressed-down look you need for a weekend social event.

6. SHEER DRESSES

Remember when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle posed for their engagement photos? She wowed the world with her sheer dress. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this sheer trend has since gained root in the fashion world and is a fashion-forward trend to watch out for. It’s the perfect look for nights out and special events.

7. SEE-THROUGH PLASTIC

This trend has been around for a while, especially in the entertainment world. Celebrities and music artists have been spotted rocking see-through plastic jackets, shirts, trousers, and even bags and shoes since 2017. It gives all outfits a festival vibe – plus, you’ll be ready for rain showers if the weather is changeable. Play with colours to suit your personal style.
