If you’re tossing and turning in bed at night, it could be down the scorching hot weather we’ve been having recently. OR it could be your bed that’s giving you sleepless nights. If you’re thinking of updating your bedroom with a new bed – or even just a new mattress – here’s a quick guide of things to look out for when doing your research…

There are lots of great sites such as oursleepguide.com that have lots of mattress reviews that help customers choose the best mattress for their body. Just by checking their website, you can learn more about popular items and how other people grade them. But is this enough? Are the reviews enough?

Yes and no. Yes, in a sense that you can filter bad from good products. No, in a sense that you still have to find the right model that will support your back. There are a lot of things you can look at when shopping for a mattress so let’s not waste any time and get right into it..!

1. START WITH RESEARCH

You need to be proactive during your mattress search. A mattress is meant to last for a long time so you don’t want to buy the first thing you see in a store. Check the reviews, do some online digging, and fin dout how different products will affect your back. In fact, if you have back issues, it is best if you consult with a specialists. They know a lot about mattresses so you might get a valuable advice before you invest.

2. CHECK THE BRAND

You might’ve found a mattress that seems to fits your needs perfectly but is it made by a reliable company? Getting an insight into other customers’ experiences of a company is precisely why you should check reviews of the brand you’re considering and see if they’re as good as they claim to be. There are lots of sites that focus on mattress reviews (such as previously mentioned oursleepguide.com). Browse the web a bit, see what people say about a particular mattress and company that made it. This way you will learn more about hidden hazards and potential item flaws.

3. BUY FROM REPUTABLE STORES

The same thing that goes for mattresses, goes for stores as well; focus on shops with a good reputation. If the store offers a good warranty and has a great returns policy, you’re onto a winner. Whether you’re buying from a manufacturer or reseller, you have to make sure that the people you’re buying from are working in your best interest. Plus, if you’re buying from a reseller, there may be some negotiating to be done, so head into the store and get haggling in person!

4. POLICIES

With all that being said, it’s important to actually read the store’s policies. Most people skim through this information without paying attention to fine print. Given that a mattress is supposed to last for years and years, there is a minor chance that something will happen to it over the course of time. In such situations, it is much better to be protected, so the warranty should last for more than a few years. A longer warranty also confirms the quality of goods. Check the return policy while you’re at it; if a mattress turns out to be uncomfortable, you’ll need to be able to replace it with something else or to get your money back. Lastly, check if the online store has the necessary web protection that will ensure the security of your payments.

5. GET A TESTED PRODUCT

New products are invented all the time and companies like to tinker with different materials. So you can be sure that there will be stuff out there you’ve never heard of. And this is where the problem lies. When purchasing a mattress, it’s best to go for something that is proven to work rather than a product that’s new to the market. Also, be careful of false claims and brands promising too much; if an ad sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

6. CONSIDER YOUR NEEDS

Mattresses are primarily functional items and are meant to provide a good night sleep. Some of them have anti-allergic properties while others don’t heat up so quickly. When buying a mattress, you have to consider your specific needs – and the needs of anyone else that you’re going to be sharing the mattress with. While modern memory foam mattresses may seem appealing, it may be better to go for something that will provide more support to your back. Also, people who have allergies will have to prioritise hypoallergenic options.
