Are you excited to renovate your bathroom? Have you been waiting to renovate the space ever since you moved in? Before you start ripping out the suite, take a deep breath and make sure you’re ready to get started. I’ve collaborated with Ecocabinets today to come up with a handy list of things that you’ll need to do before anything else…

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE?

One of the first things that you need to do when you are getting ready for a bathroom renovation is consider what needs to be done to the bathroom in the first place. I spent a long time planning my bathroom renovation before I began tackling the task – almost 4 months, in fact! Ask yourself how much you really need to renovate? Are you only going to be changing the tiles or are you also going to be updating the flooring, the fittings or painting the walls? Will you need to make any changes to the plumbing? Does that under-sink storage unit really need to be replaced or can it be painted or upcycled like my bathroom cabinet? Think thrifty!

CONSIDER YOUR BUDGET

Of course, you will also need to think about just how much it is all going to cost and whether or not it is going to fit into your budget. Knowing what you need to do before you get started means you can cut costs by only doing the essential work, and gives you time to shop around for a good deal on the supplies you need. It’s important that you take the time to create a budget that suits your financial means, and that you stick to it!

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Consider how long is it going to take to do the work you’ve got planned. Will you be able to live without the bathroom for that length of time? In some cases, you might want to do the bathroom renovation one element at a time so that you can continue to live in your home without too much disruption. Alternatively, you might want to do all the jobs at once so have a chat with any contractors you’re planning to work with to get an idea of how long it will take. Then you can plan your living arrangements accordingly.

FIND PROFESSIONAL HELP

If you’re going to give your bathroom a makeover, you’ll want it to last for many years to come (so that you don’t have to re-do it again!) so opt for quality fittings and workmanship. If you’re looking to get some beautiful bathroom storage why not opt for some cabinets made from eco-friendly materials ? If a new shower is on the cards, having it professionally fitted will make all the difference to the future safety and longevity of your bathroom. Sure, there are some thing you can do yourself, such as laying flooring or tiling the walls but some things you might need a helping hand with in order to get a quality finish that lasts.

Thanks to Ecocabinets for collaborating with me on this article. I hope that it’s helped you to plan out your bathroom renovation and that it all goes well when you get started on your own remodelling project. Let me know if you think of anything else that needs to be considered before

  1. Yay thanks Aine, it’s the one room that I’m really chuffed with – well worth putting the time in (and watching those YouTube tutorials!) to get it right 🙂 Glad you like it!

  2. I’m a tad in love with your bathroom! Nice and clean and sorted. I may now be falling down the bathroom renovation black hole! The difference is incredible, lots of seaside feels with the new bathroom. Love it.
