If you’re a blogger, vlogger, photographer or independent business, you’ll no doubt already be planning for Christmas. I know – too soon, right? But we’ve already had plenty of ‘Christmas in July’ events and product previews and, in terms of content creation, it’s fast approaching! So, today I thought I’d help you be prepared and share some essential things you’re going to need in advance of the festive season…

CHRISTMAS TREE

Last year, I felt completely under-prepared for creating Christmas content. There was a mad rush last August to find a live Christmas tree so that I could photograph my Christmas jumper cushions project for Reloved magazine. Needless to say, it just wasn’t possible to get one at that time of year! Instead I got a an artificial tree that saw me through the whole season. If you’re planning any festive content now, it’s a good idea to hop online and find yourself a thoroughly lifelike faux tree – or some foliage at least. I bet it’ll cost less at this time of year too!

FESTIVE BACKDROPS

If you’re taking product photos or filming vlogs in the run up to Christmas, it’s a good idea to get yourself a photography backdrop. Last year I invested in a sparkly gold vinyl background and it was so useful for my festive photobooth DIY project. Plus you can use it for your own New Years Eve party too! This year, I’ve already been browsing Christmas backdrops and have been amazed at the different designs available; did you know you can get a whole room scene, complete with log fire and festive decorations? I feel like I want to hang it in my living room anyway to get that ‘Santa’s grotto’ feel!  I also discovered autumn scenes and spooky Halloween backdrops too, which would have been ideal for my Halloween bats garland DIY video if I’d know about it last year.

FAIRY LIGHTS

If you’re a blogger or vlogger I’m pretty sure I don’t need to tell you that fairy lights are an essential part of content creation at Christmas. In fact, I bet you’ve got plenty of fairy lights ready to drape in the background of your festive photoshoots and videos. But if you haven’t already got some – now’s the time to invest. Independent businesses can drape them behind products to give the photos a festive ‘get-ready-for-Christmas-now’ feeling. I bought my net lights ‘off season’ via Ebay and they were around half the usual price. So, shop around now to get a great deal and start including blurry twinkly lights in the background of all your festive photos.

I hope these 3 essentials help to make your Christmas content creation even easier this year. Let me know if you can think of any other things that you’ll need to make your photos look festive in the comments below.
