December is here and if you haven’t already jumped at the chance to put up your tree and make your home look as festive as possible, you might be looking for some more affordable and creative ways to decorate your space for the Christmas period. There are so many amazing ways to put your own creative spin on Christmas decorations and decor, but to give you a few ideas, here are a select few festive arts and crafts you should try this season…

CUSTOMISED BAUBLES

Customised baubles are so easy to make and really give you the chance to make your Christmas tree look exactly how you want it. One option for this is to upcycle your old baubles to make them fit a new colour scheme you had in mind for your tree this year. For example, you could paint an old round white bauble with a new shade like navy, and cover with lots of glitter. For a more personal touch, you might like to create photo baubles by inserting pictures of friends and family inside some transparent glass baubles. They even make a perfect gift for a loved one to use as a Christmas keepsake or you could add a ‘tree gift’ inside the bauble like this DIY sock character baubles project on the ChattyFeet blog.

FESTIVE PRINTS

If you love to paint or create illustrations, why not take the opportunity to create some beautiful festive themed artwork to hang up around the home. This is a really nice and subtle way to bring some Christmas spirit into your living room or dining area without being too over the top. Use some high-quality paints and paint your imagery of choice – whether it’s some cheerful reindeer or chic minimal snowflakes. Frame your finished masterpiece and hang it near your tree or if you’ve painted multiple pieces, spread them out on walls around the room. If you’d rather go for something more graphic, framed Christmas quotes look equally festive on a feature wall.

DIY WREATH

A Christmas wreath can work wonders for brightening up your home and giving it that welcoming feel. Rather than buying a ready-made wreath, get create and make one of your own with some bendable wire, ribbons, fake leaves and other festive accessories. Bend some pieces of wire together until you have a large round shape to use as the foundations of your wreath, then wrap some red or green ribbon around the wire to give it a more luxurious look. In the past I’ve made a wreath from scraps of vintage fabric and created a pompom snowball wreath too! Use fake leaves, holly, glitter, and any other materials of your choice for a truly personalised wreath ready to hang on your door this Christmas.

So there you have it – 3 simple ideas of ways you can introduce a bespoke, creative touch into your home this Christmas and create decorations that can be used not only this season, but for many Christmases to come!
