How to DIY a light-up neon Christmas tree using an old pallet & EL wire

Who needs shop-bought Christmas lights when you can make your own, eh? If you’ve never used electroluminescent wire before, today’s project will help you get to grips with it and show you how to DIY a light-up neon Christmas tree using pallets…

SPACE SAVING

Space can be tight, but especially so at Christmas. If you’ve got minimal space and can’t fit in a Christmas tree, why not create a wall-mounted tree instead? You can use old scraps of wood to create this project (I used pallet wood) and can make it as minimal or as festive as you like.

I’ve shared the step-by-step project with photos over on the Safestore blog so that you can DIY this impressive neon tree for yourself.

DESIGN OPTIONS

There are a few options with this design; you can leave bare wood for a scandi effect or paint the tree any colour you like – snowspray would work well to give it a frosted finish. You can add hooks or pegs for hanging baubles or your favourite decorations. You can outline the tree with EL wire or use fairy lights draped across the front instead. Or you can go the whole hog like I did with neon, paint AND decorations!

I wanted to add an optional plant pot at the base of the tree to hold sweets and treats. You could even use the pegs to hang up the Christmas tree advent calendar that I DIYed last year!

Let me know if you have a go at making a neon pallet Christmas tree for yourself and I’d love to hear your ideas for styling up a wall-mounted tree in the comments below.
