Mid-century modern decor inspiration: Robin Day’s Leo ‘Bond’ Chair

If this chair feels familiar to you, you may have seen it somewhere before. In a film perhaps? Was a certain secret agent sitting in it with a glass of martini (shaken, not stirred) in his hand? Read on to find out more about the iconic Leo Chair by Robin Day...

If this chair feels familiar to you, you may have seen it somewhere before. In a film perhaps? Was a certain secret agent sitting in it with a glass of martini (shaken, not stirred) in his hand? Read on to find out more about the iconic Leo Chair by Robin Day…

I was lucky enough to write about this iconic chair in last month’s Reclaim magazine as part of my regular Design Icon column. If you want to get your hands on a copy of Issue 35 of Reclaim magazine, you can order back issues here.

The black leather Leo chair is owned by Design20C and we were lucky enough to photograph it especially for the magazine. Just have a look at how cool it looks in this mid-century home:

The chair by design Robin Day became an overnight hit when it appeared in the Bond film “You Only Live Twice” in 1967 and it’s been a popular lounge chair in homes and offices ever since.

In fact, it’s so popular that it’s still in production! Yes, it IS possible to get a brand new Leo Chair from Loft.co in your choice of colour and finish and I think it looks equally swish in a minimalist or Scandi-style home as it does in this mid-century setting.

What do you think of the Leo Chair? Would you have one in your home? Would it fit into your decor? Let me know in the comments below 🙂
