Many people only buy wine for special occasions and celebrations but there are some surprising benefits to drinking a glass of wine. Wine is an alcoholic drink made by the process of fermentation using grapes, so it’s full of all the good stuff that grapes provide. Get ready to stock up your wine rack..!

1 RICH IN ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants help our skin to be protected from UV rays, radiation, pollution, and bad lifestyle. When oxidation happens, it produces free radicals that may damage our cells. The antioxidants like ascorbic acid stop these chain reactions and red wines like Chateau des Fougeres Clos Montesquieu, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Zinfandel are packed with antioxidants. The skin of the grapes contains a substance that protects your cells against free radicals and are in every glass of red wine.

2 HAPPY HEART

Our heart is the most important part of our body, therefore you should do everything to protect your heart. Did you know that you can enjoy sipping a glass of wine while still guarding your heart? Wine contains Resveratrol, a substance that can be found in grapes, which fights against heart disease. A meta-analysis found a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure with a small dosage of Reservatrol per day.

3 YOUNG & ACTIVE BRAIN

Who doesn’t want to have an active and sharp brain? As mentioned before, wine contains Resveratrol, which also protects neurons. This helps to keep our brain active and slows down the effects of ageing.

4 LOSING WEIGHT

Amazingly, you can lose weight by enjoying a glass of wine. Really? Well, a study from Washington State University states that grapes and other fruits convert the white fat into a calorie-burning brown fat. That is because grapes contain polyphenols and antioxidants, and wine is made from grapes. Sure, it might be a better idea calorie-wise to skip the wine and just eat the grapes but technically wine could help!

5 STRONGER TEETH

Red wines contain antimicrobial properties that kill microorganisms and stop their growth. These microorganisms can be anywhere, and your mouth is no exception (considering that mouth is the one of the dirtiest parts of our body!) Drinking a glass of wine brings those antimicrobial properties into your mouth and washes away bad microorganisms.

Who knew that wine could give us so many benefits? Now we’re not saying you should drink loads of it but, knowing this, wine could be an alternative to other unhealthy, sugar-filled alcoholic beverages. Let me know what what your favourite wine is in the comments below.

  1. I love sparkling rose wine, especially Mateus Rose. I enjoy a glass or two every evening while watching the soaps. It helps me unwind at the end of a long day x
