Be kind and go caravaning at the beach: My news this summer

It's been a really exciting couple of months at Cassiefairy HQ and I've been lucky enough to be featured in a few new publications woo! It's been a while since I updated you with my latest news (in fact, I haven't shared anything since May!) so I thought I'd gather together some of the projects I've been working on recently for you to check out today...

It’s been a while since I updated you with my latest news (in fact, I haven’t shared anything since May!) so I thought I’d gather together some of the projects I’ve been working on recently for you to check out today.

It’s been a really exciting couple of months at Cassiefairy HQ and I’ve been lucky enough to be featured in a few new publications woo! Firstly, it’s one I’ve been excited about ever since they got in touch earlier in the year…

BE KIND MAGAZINE

My upcycled book-press project has been featured in Be Kind magazine this month! Do you remember pressing petals and leaves in one of those wood-and-wing-nut flower presses as a child? I’m sure many of my summer holiday days were spent picking and pressing flowers, then sticking them into scrapbooks a week later!

So I wanted to recreate this kind of flower press, but by using old books rather than wood and paper. I’ll share the full tutorial on the blog soon but, in the meantime, you can see the step-by-step guide to making your own upcycled book press in the August issue of Be Kind Magazine, which is currently on sale.

Be Kind Magazine is all about sustainable living, upcycling and DIY, being self-sufficient, vegan recipes, animal welfare, community, art, zero waste and, of course, being kind. It’s exactly the sort of magazine I love to read and I’m delighted to have contributed this month.

Look! There’s my book flower press project right next to Emma Bunton on the contents page! Just wow. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I can share more of my upcycling projects via Be Kind magazine in future issues too – watch this space!

CAMPING COOKBOOK

Earlier this year I contributed a recipe to the Kid Friendly Camping Cookbook and it has finally been published – just in time for summer! Last year, I shared a One Pot Chicken and Chorizo Risotto recipe and I was delighted when Go Outdoors got in touch with me again this year to collaborate again.

I’ve shared my Mediterranean Falafel Burger recipe as a vegetarian alternative for your BBQ, and it’s a recipe that kids can get involved with making too.

CARAVAN MAGAZINE

You may remember that I wrote a few articles for Caravan magazine in the past but this one is a bit of a different feature to my usual columns. It’s all about the history and renovation of a vintage showman’s wagon that we visited and photographed last year.

I’m so pleased that the article was published in the Summer issue of Caravan Magazine. I’ve been bursting to share the photos with you and I’ll be sure to publish more pics soon but in the meantime, you can read my 1920s Showman’s Wagon article online on the outandaboutlive.co.uk website.

REX LONDON BLOG

I’ve contributed to Rex London’s latest blog post on 18 Ideas for the School Holidays. My little feature is ‘head to the beach’, which is suggestion number 14 and there are plenty of other low-cost and FREE ideas in this blog post. Be sure to have a read of the blog post if you’re already running out of ideas for the school hols!

RECLAIM MAGAZINE

I wrote a really fun article for Issue 41’s Design Icon this month. Why was it so fun? Because I tried to write about vintage typewriters, on a vintage typewriter! It reminded me of one of my favourite films You’ve Got Mail, in which the writer Frank Navasky is obsessed with old typewriters.

You can find Issue 41 of Reclaim magazine on shelves in WHSmith and in some supermarkets, and at your local newsagent (search for your nearest stockist here). The issue will be on the shelves until 15th August 2019 and then you can order back copies from the archive online.

WALTONS NEWSLETTER

It came as a big surprise when Waltons featured my ‘day in a beach hut’ blog post in their latest email newsletter! I suddenly had lots of lovely visitors on my blog and ‘likes’ on my photos – wahoo! I’m very grateful to be included in this fun newsletter from one of my fave garden companies.

So I think that’s all for now – I try to make a note about any news-worthy things that happen but I think I let my usual well-organised-ness slip in June and July. Let’s face it, I was just enjoying the weather and my garden too much to keep track of my projects haha! Chat to you soon 🙂
