With Black Friday approaching at the end of this week, and many sales already in progress, it can be tempting to succumb to those deals. You might end up spending more than you intended to (and just before Christmas too) when a deal sounds too good to miss but Black Friday isn’t the only way you can get a bargain on furniture…

1 SPECIAL PROMOTIONS

Sure, if you’ve seen a piece of furniture at a premium retailer, you might get a good price on Black Friday. But that’s not the only day they’ll be doing a discount. In some cases, you may get a better price online if you check during special occasions and holidays. There’ll be more deals available over Christmas, in the January sales and at Easter, so this isn’t your only chance to buy a new item. These are the days that some of the best buys can be found on high-end furniture items at big retailers stores so don’t hurry to buy on Black Friday – because there are a few more places you can look first…

2 CLOSING DOWN SALES

Occasionally a furniture retailer will have a huge sale when moving to a new premises or if they decide to stop trading in a physical store and more online. And when that happens, ‘everything must go’! This helps the store to cut the cost of transporting all their goods to a new location, and it means that you can sometimes bag a bargain. And if you leave it to the last day or two, the sale can’t be delayed any longer so the price of the furniture really is the lowest price it’s ever going to be.

3 YARD SALES, ESTATE SALES AND AUCTIONS

Yard sales, estate sales and auctions are all great places to go to find better deals when buying furniture for your home. The secondhand pieces you find will be good quality (having stood the test of time) but won’t cost nearly as much as a new item when compared to the original price of showroom furniture. In some cases, this may even translate to several hundreds of pounds in savings. For instance, if you go to a yard sale, the seller may not be trying to make a profit on anything that is for sale because they just need it to be cleared out. If you are willing to pick it up and take it away on the same day, they may be willing to virtually give it to you!

4 DON’T FORGET CHARITY SHOPS

Charity shops are well known for selling secondhand furniture at good prices. These items have been donated so the price that you see can be greatly below the original retail sale. In some cases, the furniture that you find may not be worth much at all, but that means it’ll be super-low-cost. So So, if you need to buy furniture at the lowest prices possible, a charity shop is the way to go. Plus, you’re helping to put money into the charity’s pocket rather than into the profits of a big company, so it’s win-win.

5 CHECK OUT LOCAL SELLERS

Keep an eye on local ‘for sale’ listings to buy low-cost furniture. You can look online on your local selling pages on Facebook, or on sites that allow sellers to post free classified adverts, such as Preloved and Gumtree. This will help you to find listing for secondhand furniture in your area or, if you’re willing to go further afield for the exact sofa design you want or for a rare piece of vintage furniture, you can search by brand name and discover bargains all around the country.
