My Diamond Jubilee weekend in photos

I had such a hectic (but lovely) weekend over the Diamond Jubilee bank holiday that its taken me this long to recover and get back into full-swing! As you might remember me mentioning before the Jubilee, I had celebrations planned throughout the whole weekend – fitting in as many community parties and BBQs as possible! Luckily the weather was lovely round our way (wasn’t it such a shame that the Thames pageant was such a wet day?) so we had a fabulous time celebrating during the day and watching the TV coverage in the evenings. Here’s some of the photos I took over the weekend – can you spot the most patriotic breakfast-in-bed ever, that my husband made for me??

Princess fashion at the diamond jubilee

Throughout the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend all of the royal ladies certainly made an effort with their choice of celebratory outfits and I was very interested to see which designers they were wearing and the trends they had adopted for this important weekend.

I was impressed to see even the Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie (who are often criticised for their kooky fashion sense) looking classy, fashionable and summery on the final day of the celebration. Beatrice chose a striped cornflower blue Kinder Aggugini coat-dress while her sister Princess Eugenie wore a shapely purple Susannah dress, and both sensibly chose Stephen Jones hats and subtle Gina shoes (did Beatrice actually coordinate her shoes with her hair?!).

Kate Middleton/Princess Catherine/Duchess of Cambridge (which IS it??) wore Alexander McQueen on no less than 3 occasions during the jubilee weekend and my favourite outfit was this patriotic red dress created by her wedding dress designer Sarah Burton. Tulisa and Kim Kardashian have been spotted in the sleeveless version of this pleated dress in recent weeks but Kate’s custom-made version was much more demure and glamourous, especially combined with her floral Philip Treacy hat. Now where can I get this look on a budget..?

Red pleated skirt only £16 from New Look, Ben de Lisi red peplum top and Poppy Pillbox fascinator, both from Debenhams = princess fashion for a smidgen of the price!

Diamond Jubilee Weekend here I come!

I’m really looking forward to enjoying all that my local area has to offer to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this weekend! Today I’ll be attending a village BBQ with my family and taking part in the jubilee quiz and tomorrow I’m off to the check out the celebration picnic in the new village that we’ve just moved to (apparently there’s going to be a samba band procession too!).

On Monday its the larger town gala and later I’ll be watching the jubilee concert on TV and finally I’ll relax on Tuesday at the beer festival at a nearby pub. Blimey, I think I going to need another bank holiday to recover from this weekend!

So I’m getting into my red-white-and-blue outfit and new bunting necklace (from The Catkin Boutique) and making the most of the free activities and spending time with my family and friends. Lets just hope that the weather stays good all weekend!

My Favourite Craftspeople – Nicola B from The Catkin Boutique

Last week I was craving a little fashion inspiration for the Diamond Jubilee (with the aim of deciding what to wear for the celebrations I’m attending over the weekend of the 2nd-5th June) when I stumbled into a gorgeous Etsy shop The Catkin Boutique, where I was surrounded by a plethora of lovely handmade jewellery (including the cutest brooches), comfy cushions and unique accessories.

I immediately spotted this über-chic vintage-style bunting necklace and couldn’t believe the array of different colours, patterns and sizes available (not to mention the price – what a bargain!). I think this would be the ideal accessory to complement my patriotic red, white and blue Jubilee outfit – what says Jubilee celebration more than classic bunting?!

The queen of this store is Nicola B, who carefully handcrafts all her products and can personalise items for special orders. I especially like these floral-print letter necklaces and have added it to my birthday wish-list (take note hubby!).

So having chosen my favourite style bunting – this gorgeous one below called ‘Picnic in Paris’ - I got in touch with the very friendly and ultra-helpful shop owner Nicola and she rushed an order to me in super-fast time to make sure it arrived in plenty of time before the jubilee. It was so beautifully packaged and even her business card is a work of art!

And you won’t believe the compliments I’ve already received whilst wearing it; its such a cute girly look and everyone tells me they adore the necklace, so I think it’s the perfect head-turner, not just for this weekend but for the whole summer long! Check out her Etsy store The Catkin Boutique as soon as you get the chance :)
