EMAIL SUBSCRIBERS & WORDPRESS READER FOLLOWERS
First of all, THANK YOU for much for wanting to follow my blog and receive regular round-ups via email or via your WordPress Reader. If you choose to follow my blog, I will not pass on your contact information to any third parties and will only ever use your email address to send you blog post updates from this site only. Information stored includes your email address and the date of opt-in only. This information is securely stored on the Cassiefairy.com WordPress site installation, via Automattic’s Jetpack Professional, and only the administrator can access the database.
We will only collect the minimum data needed to send you the newsletter, so name/address/location details are NOT required to subscribe or follow this blog. Only your email address is required to subscribe. You may be asked to tick the reCAPTCHA box when you sign up. I’ve enabled the reCAPTCHA setting to ensure that your subscription is genuine and to prevent spambots from adding your email to my list without your knowledge.
You can change your subscription settings or unfollow at any time by clicking the links in the emails you receive from me. When you follow this blog, you will receive the following opt-in message via email to the address you provided:
Thank you so much for subscribing to the My Thrifty Life newsletter, it’s lovely to have you here. 🙂 I’ll be sure to send you regular updates on my latest posts, packed with frugal tips and money-saving ideas. You can control the frequency of these updates via the ‘manage subscriptions’ button below. If you’d like to stop receiving my emails at any point, please feel free to use the link at the bottom of each newsletter to unsubscribe. Thanks!
If you wish to receive blog post updates via email or via your WordPress reader, you can opt in to confirm your subscription when you receive this initial sign-up email. Within this initial sign-up email, you will also find a link to modify your options so that you can set the frequency at which you will receive updates from ALL the blogs you’re following via WordPress. If you have changed your mind about following my blog, you do not need to confirm, and your email address will not be added to the subscriber list.
Once you have opted-in to the subscriber/follower list, you will receive blog post updates via your WordPress reader and occasionally via email to the email address you have provided. The newsletter email contains a seasonal round-up of my favourite blog posts, including easy DIY projects and money-saving tips.
Every email you receive gives you the option to change your following settings via the WordPress ‘Manage Subscriptions’ link. You can change the frequency that you receive blog post updates using the options ‘daily’, ‘weekly’ or ‘immediate’. You can pause or unsubscribe at any time. Every email you receive from me contains an ‘Unsubscribe’ link and, if you choose to unfollow, your email address will be removed from the follower list and you will no longer receive blog posts from Cassiefairy.com via email or in your WordPress Reader.
You can access a list of all the WordPress blogs you follow’ here and edit your settings/unfollow.
Data used: To initiate and process subscriptions, the following information is used: the subscriber’s email address and the ID of the post or comment (depending on the specific subscription being processed). In the event of a new subscription being initiated, we also collect some basic server data, including all of the subscribing user’s HTTP request headers, the IP address from which the subscribing user is viewing the page, and the URI which was given to access the page (REQUEST_URI
and DOCUMENT_URI
). This server data is used to monitor and prevent abuse and spam.
Activity tracked: Functionality cookies are set for 347 days to remember a visitor’s blog and post subscription choices if, in fact, they have an active subscription.
COOKIES
To manage the cookies and similar technologies used (tracking pixels, web beacons, etc.) and related consents, we use the consent tool “Real Cookie Banner”. Details on how “Real Cookie Banner” works can be found at https://devowl.io/rcb/data-processing/.
The legal basis for the processing of personal data in this context are Art. 6 (1) lit. c GDPR and Art. 6 (1) lit. f GDPR. Our legitimate interest is the management of the cookies and similar technologies used and the related consents.
The provision of personal data is neither contractually required nor necessary for the conclusion of a contract. You are not obliged to provide the personal data.
Selecting “Accept All” cookies gives you the best browsing experience possible. Cookies collect anonymous information about a user’s interaction with a site but no personal information. If you continue to use this website without changing your cookie settings or you click “Accept All” on the cookies pop-up, then you are consenting to this. Any information gathered is anonymous. When you navigate away from this website, all cookies from your session may be deleted. You may therefore be asked to accept cookies again when you return to the website in the future.
If you have a WordPress account and you are logged in while viewing this site, temporary cookies may be set up to determine and save your log-in information and your screen display options. These cookies contain no personal data and last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed immediately.

Cookies are used by Jetpack in a variety of ways to improve your experience and provide the core functionality of some features. You can find specific details about these cookies and their purposes in our dedicated support document here.
COMMENTS
Thank you for wanting to interact with my blog and join in the discussion. I love getting comments and chatting with my readers. When you decide to post a comment, you can choose what personal information you wish to share at the point of entering your comment. You do not need to enter an email address, name or website address to post a comment. You do not need to sign in via WordPress, Google, Twitter or Facebook to enter a comment.
If you choose not to add any personal information, your comment will be posted as ‘anonymous’.
If you wish to add your details or use a social account when you comment, this means that you consent to these details (and social image) being displayed alongside your comment on the blog. You will therefore need to tick the ‘I agree’ checkbox on the comments form to submit your comment. Your email address will never be made public.
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, the timestamp and the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Akismet (owned by Automattic) is enabled on this site, so visitor comments (including name, email, URL, IP address and User agent) are checked through an automated spam detection service. If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
You have ‘the right to be forgotten’, so if you have left comments and wish to change the information displayed or remove your comment altogether, please email cassie@cassiefairy.co.uk to request an export of your personal data. You will then receive an exported file of all the comments you’ve made on this website. You will need to provide the email address you used to make your comments to access this data. Your email address will only be used to send you a temporary, unique link to your own personal data. You can then view, download, update and request deletion of your comments via the link you receive. Please let us know via email cassie@cassiefairy.co.uk if you would like your interactions with this site to be erased and we will complete this action ASAP.
If you wish to receive blog updates via email or via your WordPress Reader you can opt in to confirm this when you add a comment using the check-box on the comments form. You will then receive an opt-in email to confirm your subscription and receive future blog posts via email. If you have changed your mind, you do not need to confirm, and your email address will not be stored. If you wish to edit your preferences for receiving emails after opting in, you can use the WordPress Subscription Management page to change the frequency of the emails you receive, or you can click on the ‘unsubscribe’ link that can be found in every email we send you.
Data used: Commenter’s name, email address, site URL (if provided via the comment form), timestamp, and IP address. Additionally, a jetpack.wordpress.com IFrame receives the following data: WordPress.com blog ID attached to the site, ID of the post on which the comment is being submitted, commenter’s local user ID (if available), commenter’s local username (if available), commenter’s site URL (if available), MD5 hash of the commenter’s email address (if available), and the comment content. If Akismet (also owned by Automattic) is enabled on the site, the following information is sent to the service for the sole purpose of spam checking: commenter’s name, email address, site URL, IP address, and user agent.
Activity tracked: The comment author’s name, email address, and site URL (if provided during the comment submission) are stored in cookies. Learn more about these cookies.
Data synced: All data and metadata (see above) associated with comments. This includes the comment’s status and, if Akismet is enabled on the site, whether or not it was classified as spam by Akismet. See more about what data Jetpack syncs.
GRAVATAR
The Gravatar Hovercards feature makes your Gravatar information visible to others.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. Similarly, if you comment via WordPress, Google, Twitter or Facebook, your profile picture will be displayed. If you upload images to the website within your comment, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included, as visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Data used: This feature will send a hash of the user’s email address (if they are logged in to the site or WordPress.com—or if they submitted a comment on the site using their email address that is attached to an active Gravatar profile) to the Gravatar service (also owned by Automattic) to retrieve their profile image.
POST AND COMMENT LIKES
The Comment Likes feature gives users the power to show comments some love.
Data used: To process a comment like, the following information is used: WordPress.com user ID/username (you must be logged in to use this feature), the local site-specific user ID (if the user is signed in to the site on which the like occurred), and a true/false data point that tells us if the user liked a specific comment. If you perform a like action from one of our mobile apps, additional information is used to track the activity: IP address, user agent, timestamp of event, blog ID, browser language, country code, and device info.
Activity tracked: Comment likes.
COMPETITIONS
All the competitions on this website are hosted via Rafflecopter. You must be at least 13 years old to use Rafflecopter‘s services. When an individual enters a Rafflecopter giveaway, they’re able to log into the entry form in two ways – through Facebook Connect and through their name and email address combination. When you provide your email address or log in via Facebook within the Rafflecopter widget, you are signing into Rafflecopter, not Cassiefairy.com. Please refer to Rafflecopter’s Privacy Policy for more information.
The details you provide within the Rafflecopter competition widget are securely stored via Rafflecopter.com and can only be viewed by the Cassiefairy.com administration account. Rafflecopter will never share or sell the data you provide when you enter a giveaway and will never email you directly. Only the giveaway admin (Cassiefairy) has direct access to the entrants’ name, email, IP, time of when they entered, and how they entered.
When you win a competition, you will be contacted via email at the address you provided when you entered the Rafflecopter giveaway. You will be emailed from my personal account cassie@cassiefairy.co.uk. If the prize is a ‘tangible’ prize, you will need to provide a delivery address of your choice so that the prize can be sent to you. This will only be used to post the prize to you and will not be stored or used in the future.
SHARING
The Sharing feature helps readers to share content from the blog across the web.
Data used: When official sharing buttons are active on the site, each button loads content directly from its service to display the button, information, and tools for the sharing party. As a result, each service can, in turn, collect information about the sharing party.
When a non-official Facebook or Pinterest sharing button is active on the site, information such as the sharing party’s IP address and the page URL will be available for each service, so sharing counts can be displayed next to the button.
When sharing content via email (this option is only available if Akismet is active on the site), the following information is used: sharing party’s name and email address (if the user is logged in, this information will be pulled directly from their account), IP address (for spam checking), user agent (for spam checking), and email body/content. This content will be sent to Akismet (also owned by Automattic) so that a spam check can be performed. Additionally, if the site owner enables reCAPTCHA (by Google), the sharing party’s IP address will be shared with that service. You can find Google’s privacy policy here. You can find Automattic’s privacy policy here.
SOCIAL ACCOUNTS
If you choose to interact with me personally via social accounts, you do so using your own username and the information you provided when you signed up to the social network. This information is not stored by Cassiefairy.com, and all interactions that take place on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Facebook or elsewhere are personal interactions and are stored by the website where the interaction occurs, separate from this blog.
CONTENT FROM OTHER WEBSITES
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
This website may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third-party sites or services.
WORDPRESS STATISTICS
This website does not collect your personal information for analytics. The Jetpack Stats feature tracks your site visits. The only activities tracked via Jetpack Professional are post and page views, video plays (if videos are hosted by WordPress.com), outbound link clicks, referring URLs and search engine terms, and country.
No personal information is collected or stored.
Data used: IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, and country code. Important: the site owner does not have access to any of this information via this feature. For example, a site owner can see that a specific post has 285 views, but he/she cannot see which specific users/accounts viewed that post. Stats logs — containing visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames (if available) — are retained by Automattic for 28 days and are used for the sole purpose of powering this feature.
Activity tracked: Post and page views, video plays (if videos are hosted by WordPress.com), outbound link clicks, referring URLs and search engine terms, and country. Jetpack also tracks performance on each page load when this feature is enabled, including the JavaScript file used for tracking stats. This is exclusively for aggregate performance tracking across Jetpack sites to make sure that our plugin and code are not causing performance issues. This includes tracking page load times and resource loading duration (image files, JavaScript files, CSS files, etc.). The site owner has the ability to force this feature to honor DNT settings of visitors. By default, DNT is currently not honored.
SECURITY
This website is protected via Jetpack Professional to guard the site against brute force login attacks, spam, data loss and harmful malware injections.
HTTPS
This website is installed on an https server to ensure a secure browsing experience for readers. Look for the green padlock and ‘Secure’ rating in the address bar when you access https://cassiefairy.com. When you submit your data (in comment forms, email sign-ups, etc) to this website, your information is encrypted and transmitted to the site via a secure connection.
DATA BREACH NOTIFICATION
In the unlikely event that a data breach occurs, you will be informed as soon as possible via email to the address you provided in your interactions with this website.
REQUEST PERSONAL DATA
You can request a record of your personal data from this website. You will need to provide the email address that you originally used to interact with this blog in order to receive a log of all your comments. When you request secure access to your personal data, you will need to agree to the following message: ‘I consent to providing my email address so that Cassiefairy.com can send the personal data information requested.’ You will then receive a temporary, unique link via email that allows you to access, download, update and request deletion of your comments on this site. Email cassie@cassiefairy.co.uk to request an export of your personal data.
