Colour Trend for 2013 – Emerald City

The colour professionals Pantone have announced their colour forecast for 2013 and this year’s colour trend is emerald. The executive director of Pantone Colour Leatrice Eiseman explains that “The most abundant hue in nature, the human eye sees more green than any other colour, this powerful and universally-appealing tone translates easily to both fashion and home interiors.”

This photo of the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, (below) wearing a Mulberry dress in emerald back in October 2012 probably influenced the decision to name 2013 as the emerald year. And no doubt the colour won’t be limited to fashion – Pantone influences accessories, interior design, cosmetics and even graphics, so you can expect to see a tinge of green everywhere you look throughout the year.

This is one of my favourite colours and I’m delighted that there will be more of the rich green colours in the shops this year, but I’m worried that I’ll get sick of seeing it everywhere – I still can’t look at lilac after the mauve-overload at the turn of the century. Still, I like these emerald pieces that Marks & Spencer, Missguided and La Redoute have added to their spring/summer collections, and I’ll certainly whipping out my old favourite emerald eye shadow and sparkly Pin Up Couture high heels (above) to get into the spirit of 2013!

Princess fashion at the diamond jubilee

Throughout the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend all of the royal ladies certainly made an effort with their choice of celebratory outfits and I was very interested to see which designers they were wearing and the trends they had adopted for this important weekend.

I was impressed to see even the Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie (who are often criticised for their kooky fashion sense) looking classy, fashionable and summery on the final day of the celebration. Beatrice chose a striped cornflower blue Kinder Aggugini coat-dress while her sister Princess Eugenie wore a shapely purple Susannah dress, and both sensibly chose Stephen Jones hats and subtle Gina shoes (did Beatrice actually coordinate her shoes with her hair?!).

Kate Middleton/Princess Catherine/Duchess of Cambridge (which IS it??) wore Alexander McQueen on no less than 3 occasions during the jubilee weekend and my favourite outfit was this patriotic red dress created by her wedding dress designer Sarah Burton. Tulisa and Kim Kardashian have been spotted in the sleeveless version of this pleated dress in recent weeks but Kate’s custom-made version was much more demure and glamourous, especially combined with her floral Philip Treacy hat. Now where can I get this look on a budget..?

It’s International Tiara Day!

I’ve just heard on Radio 2 that today is International Tiara Day!

After a quick Google I’ve found out that this is the 2nd Annual Tiara Day from ‘The Secret Order of the Tiara’  and it aims to mobilizing women around the world to embrace and celebrate their powers of leadership in their own lives; “International Tiara Day celebrates women everywhere who have struggled to find their own path to success and have made it. It encourages women to listen to their heart and create the life they want. Real or virtual tiara-wearing is optional.”

HM Queen Elizabeth II

International Tiara day also celebrates the launch of the group’s first book, Become Your Own Great & Powerful: A Woman’s Guide to Leading Your Real, Big Life. That sounds like a must-read to me… Amazon here I come!

Check out their homepage http://www.seasonsofsuccess.com/tiaraday.html where you can download printable tiaras and become a member!

I can’t believe that I’ve nearly missed my chance to legitimately wear a tiara all day (and be a princess like Kate Middleton and Diana)! Now where’s my tiny crown..?

Tuesday Shoesday – Posh heels

As Victoria Beckham once again comes under fire for wearing high heels during her pregnancy (pretty much the same story that ran during each of her previous pregnancies…) I’ve turned my attention to her gorgeous designer shoe collection and specifically the shoes that she wore to the Royal Wedding.

Victoria finally lived up to her “Posh” nickname by being offically invited to a Royal Wedding and by wearing an amazing (not to mention expensive) designer outfit consisting of a Philip Treacy hat, her own VB design dress and a pair of customised Christian Louboutin heels.

Although looking slightly more funeral than summer wedding in style, her navy outfit was bang on trend (following in the footsteps of Kate Middletons navy engagement dress). However, I cannot understand how Victoria could walk in those shoes, pregnancy or no pregnancy. Personally, I struggle with 4 inch heels! And those Louboutins look particularly painful on the arches!

Even so, I love the style of the patent leather and the platform soles – the simplicity of these shoes means that they could be worn with any outfit, day or night. As you can see above, Victoria Beckham has worn similar style heels on numerous occasions! So here’s my top picks of the copy-cat shoes on the high street from Dorothy Perkins, Next and New Look :

Now we can all be a little bit more posh!
