Fashion’s not just for big fairies – its for the fellas too…

Today sees the launch of the British Fashion Council’s dedicated mens fashion weekend so I thought I’d better take some time to focus on men’s fashion for a change!

NEWGEN MEN began in September 2009 and has since become instrumental in raising the profile of emerging British designers and the first ever male-only fashion week  London Collections: Men is running from 15th – 17th June, kick starting the Menswear calendar with a showcase of British brands and businesses. This event has developed from the popular Men’s day at London Fashion Week and gives male fashion its own focused event and will emphasise both the creative and commercial importance of Britain’s brands and emerging talent as well as the rich British cultural landscape that continues to the inspire and improve the success of the fashion industry in the UK.

Caroline Rush CEO of the British Fashion Council, commented “We’re delighted to be supporting six of London’s emerging menswear talents this season, with special thanks going to TOPMAN for their continued and on-going support of the NEWGEN MEN initiative. This announcement kick-starts the countdown to the launch of our dedicated menswear showcase, London Collections: Men, and is the perfect opportunity to celebrate Britain as a leading force in menswear and capital of emerging talent.”

At London Collections: Men you can expect to see refined tailoring by menswear designer Lou Dalton, Knitwear from fashion collective SIBLING, high quality crafted pieces by Christopher Raeburn and even jewellery from Andrew Bunney. So I’ll be keeping an eye out to gain inspiration for hubby’s Autumn/Winter wardrobe and I hope to be able to update you on some of my favourite looks from NEWGEN MEN in subsequent posts.

Tuesday Shoesday – Life’s a Beach at London Fashion Week

Charlotte Dellal debuted her new Charlotte Olympia “Sirens” shoe collection for Spring/Summer 2012 at London Fashion Week, displaying a bonkers selection of seashell embellishments, flamingo feathers and deck chair colours.

The kitsch designs and pun-loaded names (such as banana leaf print platforms ‘Leaf Me Alone’ and gold shell-covered heels “Shelly”) project a cheeky playful holiday image, based on 40s & 50s America. She said her shoe designs were based on 50s Miami beach glamour; “I’ve only been there once in my life. It [the show setting] could be any Americana town I guess, but with the film set and the beach here I wanted to create Miami as you’d imagine it to be, Miami in the movies.”

Does this mean we’ll all be getting out the glue-gun to stick our holiday shells to our shoes next season? Personally, I think this may be a step too far (excuse the pun, although Dellal would be proud…) and I can’t help imagining the sound of the ‘crunch’ when one of my embellishments drops off & rolls underneath my flamingo-coloured heel. What do you think? Leave me a comment below:

Tutus in fashion ?

I ‘ve been having a look around on the internet for some tutu-based inspiration from fashion designers that I admire and some of these are absolutely beautiful – but then again, some are absolutely crazy and even I would never wear them out in public!

Let me know what you think of these designer gowns and what inspiration you think I can draw from these images!
