I recently had an order for a custom-made adult tutu in forest green and black colours. I was so pleased to make this, because it was something a little different from usual – this tutu skirt has ‘petals’ all the way around it which makes it look even more like a woodland ‘fairy’ costume. The tutu has the 2 coloured layers on the top and two black layers below, which I love and I think I’m going to make a few more like this is different colour combinations and might even add the petals range to my shop website in the future.

Last week I saw this video of Grammy nominee Britt Nicole discussing her stage costumes for her tour and was pleased to hear that she is fully embracing princess-ness with a gold tutu skirt:
“I do feel like I have to be comfortable on stage because I’m moving a lot, I’m dancing…so I have to have something that I can move in,” Britt explained. “When I’m trying on clothes for a tour coming up, I’m in the dressing room posing, dancing, holding my mic. I’m like, ‘Okay, how do I feel in this? Can I lift my arms? What all can I do?’ The last thing I bought for the most recent tour I was one is this really big tutu skirt. It goes out really far and has this gold top. I wear it with gold Converse. It’s this kind of prissy, really fun pop look and then the Converse make it more fun, more edgy.”
Scarlett Johansson has also been wearing the same gold-and-tulle style at the MET gala and looks super-pretty in this long ebellished gown by Dolce & Gabbana. Yes, I’ve been making tutus this week, as usual – but I was extra-excited when a custom order arrived for a fabulous rainbow ballet tutu because this really is one of my favourite tutus!
I love using the bright colours and also enjoy the challenge of getting 2 full rainbows (front and back) to match up while still fitting within the waistband measurement I’m using – lots of measuring and pins involved There’s actually a lot more work required in making one of these beauties compared to single colour tutus, but it always give a really satisfying result – and the rainbow tutus are the same price as all the other fairy tutus, so it’s a bargain really!
This tutu is super-full and fluffy for a special event, and I hope that my fairy-customer really enjoys wearing it! I make these for children too – this one is an adult size – Here’s the pics of my little fairy-helper wearing one below:
