I couldn’t let this important anniversary pass without a salute to all the fallen soldiers and war veterans who bravely took part in the Normandy landings on this day 70 years ago.
All the news specials and commemoration events in Europe today celebrating ‘the day that changed the world’ have ensured that all of us in the UK remember this historic occasion, pay tribute to those who died and give thanks to the soldiers who fought for freedom.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
From Laurence Binyon’s poem For the Fallen, September 1914
