DIY picnic basket, lunch box & flask upcycling project

Have you seen this month’s issue of Reloved Magazine yet? If not, quickly get yourself a copy from WH Smith, Sainsburys, Tesco or Costco, because my picnic project is in the magazine with an impressive double-page spread (and 3 further pages of step-by-step photos, too!) Yes, I’m seriously excited! Not one but three of my DIY upcycles were featured so I thought I’d show you a sneaky peek at what you can expect to see. The step-by-step guides to make this picnic set is in Issue 44 of Relovd so please check it out while it’s still on the newsagents’ shelves this week. There are three elements covered in this issue; sewing a liner to turn a bike basket into a picnic basket, giving a flask and lunchbox a makeover, and painting on a pretty floral design – something I’ve never attempted before but that was SO easy to do.We took a trip to the beach to take these lovely photos of the finished project and I’m very proud of how the images turned out. And we had a lovely picnic lunch at the same time, yum! That is, until a big red setter came over to investigate and snaffled all the meat from our picnic, eek! The DIY itself was one of the most involved – yet easiest – projects I’ve done so far. I actually think I’m going to paint more kitchen and home items using this paint-dipping technique because it looks so impressive yet it’s just a few dots of colour grouped together. I’m no artist yet I was able to paint a design that looks pretty-much exactly like I hoped it would, phew!Sewing a basket liner is also pretty easy if you do it the lazy way, like I did! I just draped the fabric over the upturned basket, pinned the corners together and stitched up the 3D shape. Any fabric would work for this project, so I used some pretty patterned cotton fabric I had saved ‘just in case’.Anyway, you can see all the step-by-step photos and read how to recreate it yourself at home in Issue 44 of Reloved magazine. It’s still available in the shops right now so rush out and grab yourself a copy today! Thanks guys 🙂
