I once lost a whole load of photos when my mobile phone died. It was before the days of the ‘cloud’ (which I’m still not sure I fully understand now..!) when you had to physically plug your phone into the computer to get images off it. That particular phone could access the internet but I never quite worked how to use it properly, and it was an ‘own brand’ phone so there was no chance I could download Instagram or Facebook and back up my photos that way. Nope, those photos were gone and even the phone-fixing-shop agreed that there was no way I’d be able to retrieve the images. Ever. This all makes it sound like it was a long time ago so when I tell you that it was less than two years ago you can imagine the kind of leaps I’ve had to take to embracing new mobile technology. It also shows how much I dwell on losing things. Okay, I don’t even remember what images were on that phone (apart from the Tina Turner concert…) but even so I wish I’d backed up. It was so much easier when photos were photos; every image was printed out and the only way you’d lose them was if you dropped the photo album in a puddle. So now, even though my photos are safely shared on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and my blog, and are all stored on my computer, an external hard-drive, a back-up drive, and on all kinds of ‘clouds’, I’d still rather print out a photo to be sure that it’s not going to be lost. Plus, I get to do all kinds of pretty projects with ‘real’ photos such as scrapbooking, photo montages and the Polaroid bunting that I hung up in my caravan earlier today. Last week I ordered a box full of prints of my Instagram photos from Cheerz. This is an easy app to use, simply log into your Instagram (or Facebook) account via the app and select the images you’d like to print. Of course, like everyone else, I have hundreds of Instagram photos so I spent a little time narrowing my selection down to my absolute favourites for this project; my top memories, achievements, travels and (of course) my cats. I knew that I wanted to create a cute photo display on the blank wall in my caravan so I picked out a few relevant camping snaps too and waited with anticipation for them to arrive.
Here’s how I made my little Polaroid bunting display and read on to find out how you can WIN a Classic Polabox full of your images and recreate this project yourself:
1) Choose your favourite images and gather together some washi tape, scissors, wool or ribbon and stapler. 2) I chose a cute pink and white pom-pom wool and stapled it up onto my caravan wall. This might be difficult to do if you have harder walls, so you might need to knock in some nails to tie the wool around.3) Cut a small piece of washi tape and attach it to the front of your photo at the top and fold it over the wool/ribbon, sticking it down on the back of the photo. 4) Continue adding images and snaking the wool bunting back-and-forth until your photo-wall display is complete. So what do you think of my finished photo bunting? I still have plenty of photos left so I think I might extend it around the caravan walls or across the top of the front window. I’m really please with how pretty it looks and it’s lovely to have photos on display in the caravan – it makes whole space feel much more homely. This is also a good idea for displaying photos in a bedroom, office or at a wedding venue – just attach photos of the happy couple and string up around the venue! And now here’s a fabulous giveaway from Cheerz.com to win your very own Classic Polabox full of your favourite photos. These look so pretty, what a great idea. I’m terrible for taking loads of photos but never getting around to printing any of them! x
