If you’re not a big fan of fairy lights but still want to illuminate your rooms for Christmas, here are some slightly more subtle ways to get a touch of twinkling light into the space without going over the top…
CINEMA LIGHTS
These light boxes can be used all year round but it’s at this time of year that you can really use them as part of your festive decor. Use a large A4 cinema light box to spell out a Christmassy slogan or a festive song lyric and it’ll create a slightly festive glow wherever you put it.
Or if you’re planning to watch a lot of festive movies in December, you can use a smaller A6 cinema light box to create a ‘Showing next’ sign to display alongside the title of the next Christmas film you’re planning to watch. Be warned – people might start inviting themselves over to join you for the next festive film showing!
LUMIERE
If you’re a Disney fan, this candlestick needs no introduction. It’s a life-size version of your favourite Beauty & The Beast character, and he’s battery powered so can be positioned wherever you like. I’d recommend keeping this Lumiere lighton the mantlepiece or in your bedroom to illuminate the dark corners of your castle.
MULTI COLOURS
You don’t need to have tacky multi-coloured fairy lights in your home to make it feel festive. You can get that same colourful glow with this Icons light. The symbols might not mean anything to you but, if you’re a Playstation fan, you’ll know that the shapes are taken straight from the joy pad. It’s a fun way to light up your living room for Christmas and you can enjoy that cool gamer-vibe all year round.
TWINKLE TWINKLE
If you miss the idea of twinkling lights, how about a glitter light instead? This glitter geode ball lights up with a colour-changing action and glitter effect. I love how it cycles through the colours and you can set it to ‘flash’, ‘breathe’ or ‘pulsate’. But that’s not all – it’s also a Bluetooth speaker! So you can play festive tunes through it during December and enjoy the glittering glow at the same time. And, of course, it’s a great all-year-round party speaker too.
PARTY TIME
Planning a party this Christmas or New Year? If so, a bar sign is essential to direct your guests to the cocktail cabinet. And this LED Neon Bar Sign is a fraction of the cost of a full-on neon one. It’s battery powered (with a surprisingly bright glow for a battery-operated light) so you can put it wherever you like without needing to find a plug socket. 
LED LIGHTS
It is possible to light up every corner of your home with LED light strips. Much less fiddly that trying to tape fairy lights to your kitchen cabinets, these strips can be plugged in and attached to almost any surface. I like the idea of adding them behind a wall-mounted TV to illuminate it from the back. The LED lights come with a remote control to allow you to choose your favourite colour, or you can set them to pulse for a twinkling Christmas lights effect. When it’s party time, choose the flashing setting and colour-changing option to set the scene for your evening.
