Celebrating 20 years of Latitude: An enchanting, creative & welcoming festival for all

Latitude Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, so I’m looking back over my previous articles to share why this Suffolk festival is such a magical, creative, family‑friendly event. Here’s everything that makes Latitude perfect for every kind of festival‑goer…

Can you believe Latitude Festival is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year? It feels like only yesterday I wandered through the Henham Park woods for the first time, spotting those iconic pink sheep and instantly falling in love with the whole whimsical world of Latitude.

Two decades on, the festival is bigger, brighter and more joy‑filled than ever – and I’ve spent the past fifteen years writing about it because, honestly, it’s just that special.

Whether you’re a seasoned festival pro, a family looking for a weekend adventure, or someone who just wants to dip their toes into the festival scene without diving head‑first into chaos, Latitude has always been the perfect place to start. Here’s why:

A Festival That’s More Than Music

Sure, Latitude has incredible headline acts every year – that’s a given. But what makes it truly magical is everything else: theatre, comedy, literature, dance, wellness, woodland trails, lakeside lounging and those little unexpected moments that make you stop and think this is exactly where I’m meant to be.

Over the years, I’ve shared so many Latitude stories, from exploring the artsy corners of the festival to discovering new performers that are now my favourites. If you fancy a nostalgic wander through my past adventures, here are a few favourites:

I’ve also shared lots of reviews, announcements and hundreds of photographs by my talented photographers over the years so be sure to check out the rest of my Latitude festival articles too. These posts show exactly why Latitude stands out: it’s welcoming, creative, colourful and full of surprises.

20 Years of Pink Sheep & Happy Memories

Latitude’s 20th anniversary feels like a celebration not just of the festival itself, but of everyone who’s ever wandered through those Suffolk fields. The festival has grown and evolved, but it’s never lost its heart – that warm, inclusive, slightly whimsical vibe that makes you feel instantly at home.

From lakeside yoga to late‑night comedy, from big‑name bands to tiny hidden stages tucked between the trees, Latitude has always been about discovery. And after two decades, it’s still the perfect place to try something new. Keep an eye out for Gareth Malone’s Latitude Choir singing songs by headline acts from the past 20 years of the festival – it promises to be an epic journey through the event’s timeline and I can’t wait to watch it and reminisce.

That said, even though there’s a schedule and an app to help you find the acts you want to see, I try not to make too much of a plan for the weekend. Some of the best experiences I’ve had have been just wandering past a stage and discovering something I wasn’t expecting to see.

Why Latitude Works for Every Type of Festival‑Goer

Over the years, I’ve met so many different people at Latitude: families with toddlers in ear defenders, groups of teens discovering live music for the first time, couples on romantic weekend getaways, and solo festival‑goers who just want a peaceful, creative escape.

Latitude works for all of them – and that’s why I’ve continued writing about it for all these years. It’s safe, friendly, beautifully organised and full of little pockets of joy. Whether you want to dance all night or spend the afternoon reading under a tree, Latitude lets you build your own perfect festival.

It can be a calm space to relax and unwind, and I’ve previously shared why a visit to Latitude is good for the mind, body and soul. Take care of your physical health with lake swimming, yoga and dancing, boost your brain with science, poetry and comedy, and enjoy the chill-out zones, wellbeing sessions and free hugs in the zen garden. Feel calm, stay happy.

Last year, my friends were running creative sessions in the Enchanted Garden family zone, so I looked at the event with fresh, family-focused eyes. I realised just how many excellent entertainment options there are for children to enjoy, from crafts, dance and activities to pop-up museums and STEM sessions. Have a read of my article about why Latitude is the ultimate festival for family fun to learn the full range of workshops and family-friendly arenas.

I’ve recently shared a guide to accessibility and wellbeing at Latitude, where I wrote about the ways that the festival ensures enjoyment for all. I visited the accessible campsite with wheelchair friendly routes and facilities, I discovered all the dedicated viewing areas and even got to see multiple music and comedy events that were fully signed for the enjoyment of D/deaf guests.

As Latitude celebrates this milestone year, I can’t help but feel excited for what comes next. More creativity, more community, more magical moments waiting to be discovered. If you’ve never been, this anniversary year is the perfect time to join in. And if you’re already a Latitude regular, you know exactly why it’s worth returning.
