If you’ve lived in your home for a considerable amount of time, you might be considering giving it a fresh new look. However, if you don’t have the budget, you might be putting it off until you can afford it. Thankfully, there are tons of really beautiful renovation projects you can do on a budget, so here are three ways that you can make an impact in your home without spending a small fortune…
1 REUPHOLSTERING
If you have a sofa in your living room and it just doesn’t tickle your fancy anymore, consider getting it refurbished. Reupholstery is the way to go to achieve a new colour scheme. There are tons of tutorials on YouTube and although you might need some specific tools to get it done, this project doesn’t need to take longer than a few days to complete. Replace a dull, worn fabric with a bright, new option – I’ve tried stapling new fabric to my old Ikea sofa and it’s worked a treat! If you don’t wan to tackle upholstery yourself, simply adding some new cushions will give the sofa a very different feel.
2 UPCYCLING
Your furniture set the tone for the rest of the space – especially in the kitchen. Because your kitchen cabinets cover such a vast amount of space in the room, they can make a big impact when you change them. If you have cabinetry in a colour that you don’t like anymore, consider painting it. You can either go classic with light grey and white to brighten up a dull, dark kitchen, or you can go bold with bright colours – like when I gave my cupboards a makeover with turquoise spray paint.
You could also take out cabinets altogether and replace them with floating shelves. This will make the kitchen feel more open and airy. The same goes for furniture in your living room or bedrooms – if you don’t like it, try painting it and see if you can create a new look you love.
3 FLOORING
While carpets might feel nice and plush underfoot, many people are steering clear of this option. The most common complaint involves the amount of dirt and debris that can get trapped in the carpet. This can lead to an increase in the production of allergens and many people want to avoid that. If you already have carpets in your home, getting them cleaned can make a huge difference – they might end up looking like brand new carpets and would be a LOT cheaper than replacing them all!
If you have good floorboards under the carpets there’s no reason why you can’t take them up and make use of the existing flooring. To make floors easy to clean more people are going in the direction of hardwood flooring. If you don’t have the budget for laying new flooring, there are other options. You can install faux wooden tiles, which lot like hardwood flooring but they’re actually tiles. They’ll be a lot cheaper than hardwood and yet they’ll still give you the same sleek look and will be easy to keep clean. Trimaco products definitely come in handy to help you get the job done in easily and quickly.
