If you’ve planned a solo getaway this summer, you’ll probably feel an extra little bit of pressure to ensure that you’ve got everything prepared prior to your departure. So whilst you’re getting everything packed up and ready, check out this checklist to ensure that you aren’t missing something essential…

1. A GOOD PAIR OF SUNGLASSES

You can’t underestimate the power of a good pair of sunglasses. Whether you’re planning on spending your days laid on the beach, by the pool or exploring the city, you’ll need a great pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Why not invest in your vision and get some classic black sunglasses? They’re simple, stylish and affordable and will provide you with all the UV protection that you need to keep your eyes safe in the sun.

SUNSCREEN

While we’re on the topic of protecting yourself from the sun, sunscreen is also an important thing to pack before you set off. You know the scene; you arrive on your first day of your holiday, excited and overwhelmed by everything – you just want to check out as much as you can as soon as you can. Before you know it, you’ve got sunburn, meaning that you have to be doubly careful for the remainder of your holiday. Besides the short term pain and discomfort, as we all know there are more serious long term effects too, so make sure you pack some high factor sunscreen in your luggage!

A PLUG CONVERTER

Phone charger? Check. Camera charger? Check. Plug converter? Uh-oh! The last thing that you want to be doing on the first day of your holiday is trawling local stores for a plug adaptor. You should be able to pick one up relatively cheaply before you go away and avoid wasting valuable holiday time. Also, make sure you double check the plug type of your destination before you buy to avoid disappointment.

A DIARY OR SCRAPBOOK

If you’re heading off on holiday alone then it’s fun to spend some of your time writing down everything you’ve got up to, so you can look back on it when you get home. If you go for a diary, it can be a fun way to reflect upon your travels afterwards. Alternatively, you can take a scrap book and keep a journal of the activities you’ve done, tape in those Rome opera tickets and train stubs as you go, and leave spaces to stick in your holiday snaps when you get home! These will act as a great reminder of your solo travels and perfect for sharing with friends and family.

A COPY OF YOUR PRESCRIPTIONS

On the extreme off-chance that your luggage goes missing or is delayed, you will want to have additional copies of your prescriptions handy just in case. The last thing you want is to be stranded with no access to any prescribed medications! This doesn’t just go for medication either – if you wear contact lenses then you will also want to have your eye prescription handy just in case you lose a lens and need a replacement.

I hope these 5 tips will help you to enjoy a trouble-free holiday as a solo traveller. In fact, these tips will probably apply to anyone heading off on a trip so be prepared and enjoy your holiday stress-free! Let me know your top travel hacks in the comments below 🙂
