Festive gift guide for adults + tips for starting your shopping now

It's the start of November and that can only mean one thing - time to start your Christmas shopping! It helps you to make considered purchases and to spread the cost so here are my top picks for gifts for adults this year...

Some items have been gifted

Some items have been gifted

If you’re anything like me, you’ll have been planning your festive shopping for a few months now already – finding easy ways to put money aside for Christmas so that you can save up a little each month to go towards your present-buying budget.

You may even have a few gifts already stashed away in your secret Christmas cupboard – but have you already wrapped them? No? Just me..?

But no matter what stage your gift shopping is at now is definitely the right time to start thinking about it. Make that list (and stick to it!) to make sure every person in your family and friends group is bought for.

Starting now means that you won’t have to shop in a hurry so you can make considered purchases. And it helps you to spread the cost by maybe getting just one present a week between now and Christmas. This means you won’t have to go out and spend masses of money all in one hit – ouch!

Here are some gifts that I think would be wonderful for adults this year – including some I’ve actually got for my own family members already. Shh don’t tell them!

Amazing accessories

Shopping for clothing for adults can be tricky so I recommend sticking to accessories when you want to treat a friend or family member at Christmas. If you know someone’s style you’ll easily be able to find an accessory to top off their outfits such as a lovely pashmina shawl like this one, which taps into both glamorous and boho styles so will suit all tastes.

At the same beautiful boutique, you’ll also find a collection of handmade crystal jewellery designed by Xander Kostroma. You can shop by stone if you wish to find a gift that combines calming or energising properties with aesthetic appeal. These jewellery pieces can come beautifully gift-wrapped making it an extra easy festive treat to give to your special someone this Christmas.

A sweet boozy treat

It’s always a bit of a treat to get a festive tipple at Christmas and it’s extra special when you head away from the supermarket options and choose something a little more luxurious. That’s why I’m treating my family to some delicious bottles of Project 173’s flavoured rums.

I’ve chosen a sweet and fruity Black Cherry for a family member along with a bottle of seasonal Pumpkin Spice for a friend. I also can’t wait to try the chocolate flavour myself this Christmas as I’ve got it as a joint gift for myself and my husband. These rums are made with all natural flavours and there are plenty of cocktail recipes for the Project 173 collection available on the Masters of Malt website.

Beautiful books

Encourage the adults in your life to slow down a little and perhaps step away from screens in the evenings by treating them to a beautiful book on one of their favourite subjects. I love coffee-table books; it makes sitting down with a steaming cup of coffee a real treat when you’ve got a book full of lovely photos and interesting facts to flick through.

It can also inspire new passions or ignite old interests. I’ve requested the newly published book Lunar: A History of the Moon in Myths, Maps + Matter by Matthew Shindell for myself. I’ve developed a real interest in stargazing, especially after going to the theatre to see The Night Sky Show earlier this year. And, for my husband, I’ve chosen Off the Grid by Dominic Bradbury which is packed full of beautiful photographs of cabins and homes in wild locations across North America.

Self-care specialities

There’s always space for a little extra self-care in everyone’s life so why not encourage your friends to relax a little with a collection of spa-like treats? There’s always room in everyone’s beauty cabinet for the best eye cream, a trending mud cleanser or a candy cane body butter from Eight Saints. Sounds absolutely lush, doesn’t it? It would certainly make me feel very special to unwrap a pampering treat like this!

You can also check out the collection I personally got from The Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co who specialise in clean and natural beauty products. They have starter bundles and gift boxes available to make it super-easy to put together a lovely luxurious present for your loved one.

I chose some of their trending products including the Queen Bee bar and some body & bath treats such as their fragrant salts with essential oils. What a relaxing treat and a lovely way to start the new year. Plus, you can get 10% off your order with the code 10CFAIRY so don’t forget to use that discount code for the Edinburgh Natural Skincare Co to save more money and make your festive shopping even more thrifty!

Snuggly and warm

Continuing with this self-care idea, a gift that I would personally love to receive is a Kudd.ly hoodie blanket. They’re giant hoodies crafted from super-soft fabric that you can wear around the house – or camping, or at the beach – anywhere you want to stay cosy!

I think they’re such a treat to pull on during snuggly Sundays and sofa days, plus the oversized design means they’ll fit all adults, so you don’t need to know someone’s clothing size in order to treat them to a cosy hoodie. For me, they’re a money-saving option too, because they’re so warming that you won’t have to put the heating on as often!

Having a giggle with games

In our family, we love to play games – and not just at Christmas. So I’ve included some of my faves in this gift guide because they’re ideal for adults and can also be played with friends or even teens if needed – nothing lewd or rude here!

I’ve chosen a game based on one of my favourite TV shows Taskmaster. The board game by Ginger Fox is ideal for fans of the show, allowing you to compete in bizarre tasks and problem-solving games. Super unpredictable and loads of fun.

For the adults in your life who have younger families, a game like ‘Host Your Own Family Quiz Night‘ is ideal because the kit contains questions that suit both adults and children, so everyone can get involved and it’s educational. If your family loves watching general knowledge trivia quizzes on the TV, why not encourage them to turn off the telly and play this fast-paced quiz game instead?

And finally flowers

The ultimate treat for anyone is a beautiful bouquet of flowers. This is the ideal gift if you won’t get a chance to see a friend or family member over Christmas as you can have the blooms delivered directly to their door so they know you’re thinking of them.

Lov Flowers offers British-grown, sustainable bouquets through their fast delivery service. Choosing blooms from British flower farms allows you to receive the freshest and most vibrant stems, as they are locally cultivated and promptly delivered.

A British flower delivery also helps to reduce the carbon footprint associated with long-distance transportation. The bouquets from this eco-friendly florist are delivered to your doorstep carefully wrapped in beautiful gift packaging, with arrangement instructions so the recipient can achieve a gorgeous festive display.

I’ve previously chosen these flowers for Mother’s Day, for my Nan at Christmas, for my friend’s 40th birthday and for my husband’s birthday last year so they really are ideal for every occasion. Plus, the good news is that Lov Flowers is running a giveaway so you can win a box of beautiful seasonal British flowers so be sure to enter here before the winner is drawn on 30th November – and good luck!

My festive gift guide for kids and teens will be dropping soon so be sure to keep an eye out for those in the next couple of weeks! And please let me know in the comments below if you have any other thrifty or homemade gifts for adults that you’d like to share. 🙂
