Parquet flooring is the new vinyl records. Making a surprising comeback, parquet has exploded back into the flooring scene and is ever increasingly becoming one of the most popular flooring types out there. You may remember parquet from your Grandparent’s house when you were a kid; the distinctive zig-zag patterns and geometric design make it stand out from the crowd.
Parquet dates as far back as the 1600’s and was popularly associated with Versailles and the Grand Trianon. There is an incredibly broad range of choice on show, so there’s always a design to fit the your needs. The small planks have a very unique look, and can be shaped into pretty much any shape or design that you like. This versatility can’t be provided by any other flooring type, so it’s unsurprising that people are welcoming it back into their homes.
It’s hardly surprising that parquet is on the increase, we live in a world where vintage clothing is back in fashion, and Downton Abbey is one of the most popular shows on TV. Parquet has very much been given a modern twist, but it will always hold it’s old-fashioned values which is the biggest appeal to homeowners.
One of the main advantages of parquet aside from its design and versatility is the durability. It will last a very long time, and is difficult to cause permanent damage. If a long-term solution is what you’re looking for, then this is perfect for you. Unlike hardwood they come in fixed shapes and sizes, and are usually best fitted in kitchens and dining rooms. It’s always best to have a specific design in mind beforehand, as lack of planning can cause it to look cluttered and a little chaotic.
The instalment process can be very time consuming, so patience will be needed! If you have a busy schedule, it may be best to hold off relaying your floor until you have more time. If you have the time and money to invest parquet can be a fine addition to your home, and if you like vintage and traditional looking flooring it’s perfect for you.
