Blimey, this winter weather seems to be getting worse every week. I dare not leave the house without my thermals on! Even though conditions are positively Baltic and it’s more likely your ears will be sporting a touch of frost as opposed to a pair of sparkly earrings, you still want your outfit to reflect your personality.
That means picking out fun outfits and playful accessories that make you feel just as warm on the inside as they do on the outside. Wellington boots in all manner of colours perhaps? A bobble hat for each day of the week? And scarves as long as the eye can see (maybe not quite so long) should all be part of your winter wardrobe. Here are some tips for jazzing up your winter outfits while staying warm…
PRACTICAL AND CHIC
Warm and cute, cosy and cuddly – tick all of the above and you’ll have nailed your winter outfit. Denim is a girl’s best friend in the winter as not only does a good pair of jeans stop you from shaking in your fluffy boots; they also keep you looking good! A pair of slim-fit winter jeans can be matched with almost anything (bring on that fluffy jumper!) and can be worn with boots, trainers or heels, making them the perfect item of clothing for this season. Plus, denim jackets are a wardrobe staple all year round. Choose darker hues like indigo, burgundy, green and black and add a pair of knee-high boots – and add thermal leggings underneath if it’s really cold.
WARM AND WELCOMING
Warm colours have always been more welcoming compared to an all-black ensemble, which might give off the impression that you are a little standoffish. That said, most winter clothes such as coats, gloves, waterproofs etc, are usually available in black and grey shades and not much else. Try to express yourself even in darkest winter by adding colour and pattern to your layered outfit. Whether you pop a necklace with vibrant agate gemstones over your roll-neck jumper, pull on some cosy patterned tights or add a colourful scaarf, it’s never too cold to jazz up your outfit with a stunning piece of jewellery or an eye-catching accessory.
DON’T SETTLE FOR SALES
The January sales may have you believe that just because something is labelled 50% off it is a bargain. Don’t fall into that trap! Don’t allow yourself to settle for second best purely because the price tag makes it more alluring in terms of price. Sure there are still lots of clearance offers around this month, but if you really want something (especially if it’s colourful!) then don’t be afraid to treat yourself – within your budget, of course. If you really want that multicoloured jumper more than the plain alternative, but you are unsure because the price is a little higher, don’t feel bad about paying a bit more for something you really want. You’ll probably wear it more if you really love it so the cost-per-wear will level out the difference in price.
I hope these tips have given you inspiration for staying cool (in the fashion sense) during these cold months and will help to bring a little excitement into your winter wardrobe. Let me know how you like to jazz up your winter outfits in the comments below, I’d love to hear your tips!
