Do we need a heatwave to know that summer is here? Did I suddenly feel more summery when I flipped the calendar over to June? No, the thing that makes me sure that summer has arrived is a good old-fashioned summer sale! Yes, the butterflies, blue skies and sunburn set the scene but I’m never 100% sure when summer starts. I thought summer was traditionally June, July and August – but if so, why is Springwatch is still on the telly? Sometimes May is more mild than August and other years September has been a scorcher. Over the past few years I’ve been conducting my own ‘weather watch’ and I conclude that the seasons are out of sync. With April showers in May and snow almost guaranteed in February, I think that the world should just shift itself back by a month so that the weather corresponds with the calendar. What do you think? Today’s blog post isn’t about the weather, in spite of my opening rambles. It’s about the Summer sales and my trip to Clarks yesterday. I heard that the sale was starting soon at Clarks and made arrangements to take some time off this Monday so that I could get down to my nearest store early yesterday morning to snaffle some bargains. There’s always a great selection at the start of the Clarks sale and I’m practically guaranteed to find the shoes I like in my size – and if not I can order them at the sale prices to collect in store. Thankfully I found loads of collections available in my size and I popped my trotters into pretty-much every shoe they had in store.I took my husband with me because it was high-time that he had a new pair of shoes and we always know that Clarks shoes are going to last, no matter what he puts them through! I left him browsing the men’s section while I headed off to check out the size 4 shelves and when I’d settled on a shortlist, I came back to find him trying on a couple of classic styles. I was actually really impressed with his choices – although frankly he can’t really go wrong with the Clarks collection – and I loved every pair he’d picked out. Thankfully, he is much more decisive than me and could easily whittle down his selection to a favourite pair and he quickly chose this gorgeous rust-coloured suede shoe. I think the Raspin Plan shoe in red is the ideal choice for summer; the style will go with shorts, jeans or trousers and looks casual enough for a walk down the promenade yet smart enough for a summer wedding. Plus, the rust shade will look fantastic during the autumn too – great work hubby! I, however, found it a lot more difficult to settle on just one pair of shoes. I knew that I wanted a pair of flat shoes so I was able to eliminate all the (gorgeous) heels and wedges on the sale shelves – yet, just saying no to these beautiful heels was difficult enough! Even after filtering out the heels, this still left me with a massive selection of flat pumps, brogues, sandals and shoes to try. When I’d decided which style fit best – these cut-out lace-up leather flats – I then had the mammoth task of choosing a colour. With at least 4 colourways in the Hotel Image range, each looking perfect on my feet, I really struggled with this. With the help of my husband and a lovely sales assistant, plus lots of posing in front of the massive mirrors, I finally plumped for the mustard yellow shade. The ‘honey leather’ colour is ideal for summer – with skirts and dresses – and I can see myself wearing them into autumn too with skinny jeans or coloured tights. Yes, I felt cool and on-trend in my new yellow shoes and I skipped to the cash desk to pay for my half-price purchases. As I was already wearing rolled-up jeans I decided to pop on my new shoes immediately and wore them around town throughout the rest of my shopping trip. And let me just say that the cushioned soles were super-comfortable so I was easily able to wear them without that ‘new shoe’ pain or fear of rubbing. Back home that afternoon I insisted that hubby and I take some photographs of our sale finds so that I could show you all what fantastic shoes are available in the Clarks sale. It only just kicked off yesterday so I’m sure you’ll be able to grab a bargain too. Nip out to your nearest store on your lunch break today or hop onto the website to order from the sale section!Let me know if you pick up any bargains yourself during the summer sales by leaving me a comment below and I’d love to see photo of your new shoes to please tweet me @Cassiefairy.
