Is there a bra ‘season’? A particular ‘time of year’ for underwear? If there isn’t then why am I seeing bra promotions wherever I go? I’ve bought no less than three bras in as many days and I think it’s down to the weather. Just the thought of last-year’s bra strap poking out from under a stappy cami top has sent me running to the shops to buy some new summery sets of underwear. Do you find you start thinking about new bras when the sun comes out too?
I rarely buy underwear online as I can never be sure of getting the right fit without a proper trying-on session so I headed into my local town.
I’ve never really known how bra-fitting works (it all seems rather mathematical for me!) so it’s always been a case of trial-and-error in the past but this time I found out my proper measurements and actually went down a band size! If you’d rather shop from home here’s an old BHS video of how to measure yourself to get the best fit:
Their top tips for checking the fit include:
- Is the underband is riding up at the front or back of the bra? If so you’ll need a smaller band size.
- If you’re spilling out the cups at the top or sides you should try a bigger cup size or a different style.
3. Check the underwire is sitting close to the body and if there are any gaps in the centre or digging in at the sides you’ll need a bigger cup.
- If the straps are digging in this means that the underband is not supporting you properly so you may need a smaller size.
After finding out how to get the perfect fit I decided on a shortlist of favourites including a pretty pink floral bra and a cute t-shirt bra in a fresh mint lace for only £12. Even though neither of these bras were currently in stock in my new size I was able to order them online and they were delivered to my home this week.
I’m ready for summer now – bring on the strappy tops! Do you also love to buy new underwear for the summer season? What style do you go for to wear with camis and vest in the summer? Have you ever had a bra fitting and found out that you were a completely different size?? Let me know by leaving me a comment below 🙂
