My summer so far…

Collaborative feature

It’s only half way through the school holidays and I’ve already been having a wonderful summer break. I’ve been on a few day trips, I’ve visited a handful of places and got a few of my “to-do’s” done. If you’re wondering what I’ve been up to, here’s the goss…summer holiday sunset beach huts seaside-2I went to the seaside. During the very first weekend of the summer holidays I organised to go away from Friday – Monday. It isn’t a long drive from here to the Essex coast, but it was a very hot one! We arrived for our yearly family holiday at around 9am and headed straight to the beach hut. We pretty much spent the rest of the day on the beach, throwing a giant frisbee that I’d bought ‘for the kids’ and tucking into traditional fish ‘n’ chips. The heat dictated plenty of trips to the swimming pool and lots of breezy walks along the promenade to cool off. We enjoyed a game of bowling on Saturday evening, and the bowl ‘n’ burger deal on the pier is always a winner – the burgers are huge! Sunday was a chilled out beach day and on Monday we visited the nearest ‘big’ town for more arcade fun and a trip to the Sealife Centre. A wonderful weekend.

I visited a museum. Ipswich Transport Museum to be precise. I’d never been before, despite growing up in Suffolk from the age of ten. It was a real surprise to find so many interesting exhibits in an unassuming old bus hangar. I’ll share more photos in a ‘proper’ blog post about the museum soon and give you my tips for visiting during the school hols. Another lovely day out with the family that didn’t cost a fortune, bonus!

I went on a mini-break. To a spa. My husband booked a last minute break for both of us to enjoy some time relaxing at a very luxurious spa at Wyboston Lakes. The hotel was very swish with beautiful lake views and the room was exceptionally comfortable. There was even a tablet in the room so I was able to get online while we were away (no, I didn’t start working straight away!) and we could watch Netflix in bed, yay! Spending four hours in the thermal spa ensured a thoroughly chilled out experience. And the food was out of this world. I’ve literally never eaten SO much food over the course of 24 hours!

I went to a festival. I made my regular pilgrimage to Latitude Festival again this July. I saw lots of laugh-til-you-cry comedians and I thoroughly minute of Jane Horrocks’ music set (her festival debut, though you wouldn’t know it). The weather was glorious, the forest was beautifully decorated with artwork and fairy lights, and I drank more chocolate milkshake than any girl has ever drunk before. Good times.bridesmaidI was a bridesmaid. My best friend got married earlier this month and asked me to be one of her bridesmaids. I loved every minute of being involved in the wedding – getting stuck into her wedding Pinterest boards, emailing the other bridesmaids to make secret plans, helping her in the run up to the big day, and even hanging the fairy lights in the beautiful venue. I was so pleased to be able to be there with her as she got ready in the morning and to see her transform into a bride. It was a rather emotional time, I can tell you. We all had an amazing day and it’s one I won’t ever forget. It was a simply amazing experience.southwold pier attraction suffolk seaside travel guide-14What have you been up to this summer? Even though we haven’t yet booked a trip abroad for this summer, I’ve had time to think on possible destinations for a last minute break. Now that I’ve finally renewed my passport, I’ve become really excited about planning a short holiday in the sun. Spain is on my bucket list, as I have friends living out there at the moment, and Majorca looks like such a gorgeous destination. For now, I’m just browsing online deals but I’ll be sure to let you know if I head off to Europe this summer! I’d love to hear your suggestions for days out and staycation holidays so please do leave me a comment below and share your ideas! Thanks 🙂
